Allegedly, a City of Sacramento trash truck was traveling northbound on 21st Street. A bicyclist was also heading north on the west side of the same street.

Just a few blocks from Gov. Jerry Brown’s Sacramento residence, the trash truck turned west onto Capitol Avenue from 21st Street, striking the bicyclist as he was traveling.

This on the heels of the new 3-foot passing law, Assembly Bill 1371, coming into effect shortly for California motorists. Gov. Brown signed the new bill into law this past September.

The bicyclist was transported to the hospital with a major hand injury from being rolled on by the truck, according to an officer at the scene.

Investigators are at the scene.
