Concerts in the Park Kicks Off with Great Local Music this Friday

See downtown come to life as our city’s favorite local musicians gather to play under warm Friday night skies at Sacramento’s popular Concerts in the Park, returning to Cesar Chavez Park this Friday, May 2, and continuing every Friday through July 25.

The free annual event returns for the 23rd time and brings with it a packed lineup of over 50 artists and bands. Highlights include this Friday’s headlining act, ZuhG, “The Voice” contestants James Cavern and Jeremy Briggs, and country headliners the Chris Gardner Band and !!! (or Chk Chk Chk).

“Concerts in the Park is a great way to kick off your weekend and to enjoy the largest Friday night happy hour in the park,” said Annie Stuckert, Director of Events for the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, producer of the event. “It’s a great social atmosphere celebrating fun, local music.”

Great local food is also a highlight of the 12-week event, with food truck offerings by Krush Burger, Autentico Taco Azteca, Wicked ‘Wich, Fuzion Eatz, and Annie’s Sno Biz. Yolanda’s Tamales and a beer garden will also be there. Other vendors on hand are the Gypsy Mobile Boutique and the Midtown Cruiser Shop—who will be raffling off at the end of the season an official Concerts in the Park bike signed by all the headliners.

Stuckert is especially excited this year about their partnership with Silk Road Soda, their official soda sponsor, and Sac Republic FC, who is sponsoring of the DJ Stage, which will feature Sacramento’s hottest DJs spinning from the Republic FC stage.

“We definitely have seen an increase in attendance in the last few years,” Stuckert said, noting that the concerts are family-friendly with a diversity of ages, people, singles, couples, and families. She added, “Sacramento should be excited about this because it’s our 23rd season and a great celebration of what we have to offer in the Sacramento music scene.”

Each concert begins at 5pm and continues until about 9pm. Note that there will be no concert on July 4. Cesar Chavez Park is located on 10th and J St. Parking is recommended in the parking garage on 10th and I or in street parking spaces (free after 6pm).
