Joining Sacramento Press as a Community Contributor is an exciting way to go behind-to-scenes of the city or at the forefront of our readers. Similar to blog writers or volunteers in the community, contributors contribute articles that reflect their passion. SacPress gives members of our community the chance to be heard, to be a part of the conversation of the city, and to see niche stories published that other publications may otherwise overlook.
So How Does It Work?
Upon approval of joining SacPress as a Community Contributor, contributors will acquire their own login and have the ability to submit articles for review. Before submitting a story, they will contact our editors for approval. Press passes, if needed, will be made available to contributors. Prior to publication, all stories will be reviewed and edited, if needed, to ensure it meets SacPress’ editorial standards.
Why is being a Community Contributor good for…
Writing Hobbyists: Publishing your stories on SacPress allows you to gain exposure to a wider audience while continuing in your passion to share your words with the world. You’ll also find that being a contributor removes many of the publication roadblocks you may find at other media outlets. As an added bonus, as a contributor you’re also able to request press passes to events and venues.
College Students/Young Writers: It can be difficult to break into the world of writing. Becoming a Community Contributor gives you the chance to get published and begin building your portfolio while allowing you to gain experience and a feel for the field of journalism. We also offer internships on a semester/quarterly basis, giving young writers the added benefit of editorial mentorship and credit (learn more here).
Photographers. Love to take photos? Whether highlighting an event, an awesome travel destination, or local happenings, SacPress is a great place to publish your photo galleries. Contribute your gallery with some of your own text or work with our Editors to team up with other contributors to share your photos and story with the community. We also feature a new photographer every week in our Photo of the Week section!
Local Businesses. Supporting local businesses is an important part of what we do, so we welcome local businesses to use SacPress as a way to get the word out on an event they’re hosting or the things they’re doing in the community.
The Everyday Person. Everyone has an opinion or something their passionate about. Let your voice be heard in our Community Voice section or share your passion with our readers by writing about any of a multitude of topics. We offer journalistic writing guidelines and tips for the apprehensive among you, so don’t be shy. Our Editors are glad to help you get your story out.
The Community. Even if you’re reading instead of writing, having Community Contributors allows SacPress to stay hyperlocal while allowing our readers to reap the benefit of hearing from and/or getting the inside scoop from their fellow community members.
