A second solid effort against a Major League Soccer opponent fell short last Sunday when Sacramento Republic FC dropped a 1-0 match to the expansion Los Angeles FC before a near sellout at Papa Murphy’s Park.
Los Angeles broke a 0-0 tie in the 60th minute with a goal from João Moutinho, who was the overall No. 1 draft pick of the MLS draft in January. Republic FC, now 1-2 after three pre-season games – two against MLS opponents – will continue 2018 preseason play against United Soccer League’s newest team, Fresno FC on Sunday, March 4 at Stanislaus State University. Sacramento’s fifth USL season will open March 10 in Cincinnati with the home opener scheduled for March 17 against San Antonio FC.
