Bastille Day ‘Let Them Eat Cake’ Tasting Event This Thursday

let them eat cake

Can you think of any better way to celebrate Bastille Day than to eat cake? Lucky for you, the 15th annual “Let Them Eat Cake” event this Thursday will allow you to do just that.

Held at Beatnik Studios in Sacramento, the fun Bastille Day celebration will showcase outstanding local cuisine, wines, brews and beverages, while playing host to cake tasting, viewing, and judging. Accompanying the indulgence of cake and wine will be live music by the Nashville-based Gabe Dixon as well a silent auction for artwork created by some of the region’s most talented artists.

The event benefits Sacramento Self-Help Housing, a non-profit dedicated to the elimination of homelessness in our region. The fundraising event supports their efforts to identify positive solutions and workable alternatives for local community members dealing with homelessness or trying to break free from a cycle of unstable living situations. Their “housing first” model provides shared housing in over 45 sites with individual bedrooms and shared common areas at affordable rents with various levels of support depending on the needs of the residents.

The need to draw a crowd is an important one in order to help fund this vital local non-profit–and for that they did well in choose Marie Antoinette-esque cake for this fitting Bastille Day celebration.

Interested guests are invited to submit their own home-made (or store-bought) creations for the spirited cake contest (and a chance to win prizes). Advance entry information is suggested but not required to participate and guests can show up to the event with a cake to be added to the fun competition (note admission cost is waived for those who enter a cake in the competition).

Cakes will be judged by local celebrities including ABC10’s Emmy-Award-Winning Entertainment Reporter Mark S. Allen in at least three categories: Best Tasting, Most Creative, and Most Beautiful.

Balancing sweets with savory, there will also be a bounty of appetizers on hand and beverage by wineries and breweries such as Bogle Vinyards, Hoppy Brewing Company, M2 Winery, Perry Creek Winery, Sactown Union Brewery, Michael-David Vineyards, and Van der Vijver Estate Winery.

“Let Them Eat Cake” will be held at Beatnik Studios, 723 S St, Sacramento, from 5:30-8:30pm this Thursday, July 13. Tickets cost $40 per person or two for $75 in advance or $50 per person at the door (free entry for those submitting a cake to the contest).
