A First Look At California’s 2017 Music Festivals

With the new year upon us comes a new year of music festivals to look forward to. Lucky for us, we live in California where we are just close enough to a few of the world’s most sought after musical lineups. Below we have gathered the first round of festivals we are looking forward to experiencing in 2017.

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival

One of the greatest music festivals in the world returns to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California for its 18th year of music and arts between April 14-16 and April 21-23. Heavyweights, Radiohead, Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar are each set to headline their respective days throughout two consecutive weekends.

With close to 150 supporting acts, talent is abundant, but a few standouts include Travis Scott, Phantogram, Bon Iver, Gucci Mane, Justice and world-famous composer Hans Zimmer.

Spread among five stages, up-and-coming acts Francis and the Lights, Mura Masa, Raury, Kaytranada and GoldLink will be keeping the youthful spirit alive in the desert this April.

Festival and camping passes will be on sale January 4 at 11 a.m.

BottleRock Napa Valley

California’s premier music, culinary and arts festival returns with its “first taste of summer” on Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28. Staying true to its entity of good taste, BottleRock welcomes the Foo Fighters, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Maroon 5 to the Napa Valley.

Among the list of world-class entertainers, Modest Mouse, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, The Roots and Silversun Pickups are scheduled to perform throughout the weekend.

While the ears are being tickled, taste buds will be happy to see 45 restaurants from the local Napa Valley showcasing their favorite meals to the public, with 22 wineries serving some of the world’s top grapes and 23 breweries keeping everyone refreshed.

In its fifth year, BottleRock is on-course to supplying music, arts and culinary fans alike a place to return to every year with a festival experience unlike any other in the state.

Tickets go on sale January 4 at 10 a.m.

California Roots Festival

In its eighth year, California Roots Festival returns to the legendary Monterey County Fairgrounds for a Memorial Day Weekend celebration, May 26-28. While the complete lineup has yet to be released, Nas, Dirty Heads and SOJA are listed as the festival’s headliners.

Among reggae’s most beloved bands, Iration, Stick Figure and Common Kings join the likes of Jurassic 5, Protoje and Nahko and Medicine For The People for a steady lineup along the Pacific Coast.

As always there will be plenty of captivating art throughout the festival, with an art & wine retreat, yoga sessions with Ben “Good Vibes” Spellman and an after dark lounge with fire dancers and live painting among other visual delights.

Tickets are now on sale, while the final artist announcement is set for January 10, after which ticket sales will increase.
