Candlelight Tours Return to Sutter’s Fort

In a festive return to Sacramento’s historic site, the ever-popular “Candlelight Tours” will be lighting up Sutter’s Fort on Saturday, Nov. 19. Presented by California State Parks, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) and Friends of Sutter’s Fort, this one-night-only event has proven to be a true crowd pleaser for fans of tales from the past.

With all modern lights turned off and the iconic Fort lit by candlelight, guides will lead small groups of visitors into the Fort’s more intimate rooms for intriguing glimpses into the private lives of those who uprooted their families for a better life in early California.

Each year, the popular Candlelight Tours offer a magical experience for individuals, families and groups of friends to “eavesdrop” on inhabitants of Fort rooms as they gossip about their neighbors and comment on the current events of 1846.  At the end of the enchanting tour, guests will receive a souvenir bandana and enjoy a piece of pie and hot beverage while discussing which 1846 story was the highlight of their memorable night.

With tours departing every 10 minutes between 6:30 and 8 p.m., Candlelight Tours cost $17 per person and are recommended for ages 8 and above.  Due to the popularity of the Candlelight Tours, advance reservations are recommended and can be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com.
