Farm to Glass: Legends of Wine Recap

Farm to fork means so much more than just food! One of Farm to Fork month’s major annual events, Legends of Wine, was another stellar event starring local wines. Guests gathered on Friday under one of the last summer sunsets on to sip quality wine and munch on paired specialty snacks.

Wines were handpicked by David Berkley and Darrell Corti, both world renowned, Sacramento-based professional gourmandises. Wines were served classically, red at room temperature and whites chilled.

Not only did the event raise awareness about farm to fork, but it also introduced attendees to some local culinary delights. About twenty vendors served their wine, Hook & Ladder provided small snacks, and complimentary mini baguettes were provided by Grateful Bread. Two large dining tables held a wide variety of artisan cheeses, from the standard brie, white cheddar and Humboldt fog.

A complimentary wine glass ensured guests’ glasses were always full as continuous sampling was a big draw of the night. A rookie sommelier would not feel out of place here as vendors were friendly and encouraged guests to try and guess the flavors of the wine before and after drinking. They quickly demonstrated tips to fully enjoy the wine, from holding the glass at the stem to specific ways to swish wine in the mouth to hit all the taste buds.

Capay Valley was a popular vendor among the attendees. The Sparkling Viognier, or “Yolo County’s champagne” was served chilled and bubbly. Bokisch, from Lodi, served a Verdejo, a citrus based white wine with a sparkling aftertaste. Muddy Boot was another favorite among attendees with the summery Sauvignon Blanc with tastes of peach, lemon and grapefruit.
