The Spanish word “dorado” translates to “golden”, which perfectly describes El Dorado Hills, nestled in the Sierra Foothills just 25 miles northeast of downtown Sacramento.
This upscale city is comprised of high-end luxury homes, an abundance of parks and recreational opportunities and places to go and eat as a family. Let’s take a closer look at this city, highlighting a few of our favorite features, businesses and activities.
Go on a Shopping Spree
You’ll hear about El Dorado Hills Town Center a few times because it is a major hub in El Dorado Hills for community events, dining, movie-going and one of the best activities — shopping.
If you love dogs, the first priority on your shopping list is finding some supplies and accessories for your fur baby. Bark Avenue is a locally owned and operated pet supply and grooming store, providing full-service grooming, a do-it-yourself dog wash station and even puppy training!

Grab a Bite to Eat
Let’s be honest. One of the most important aspects of a community is its local eatery options. Check out some of our favorite places to grab a meal in El Dorado Hills.
Located in the La Borgata Center, Sienna Restaurant is an upscale-casual eatery, bar, and restaurant offering New American cuisine in their classy and beautiful interior.
Ruffhaus Hot Dog Co. is a quick-serve hot dog pub offering both classic and cutting-edge hot dogs. Using top quality California beef and fresh bread from Sacramento Baking Company, this unique eatery takes your typical hot dog experience to the next level.
Many El Dorado Hills residents are ecstatic about the return of Boucanes Smokehouse, which closed its doors a few years ago. With its revival at Raley’s shopping center on Park Drive comes the return of exceptional Southern barbeque food — like barbeque beef sandwiches, baked beans, ribs, and macaroni and cheese. And don’t miss their incredible desserts that taste just like your grandma’s baked goods!
Since Sacramento is America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital, it’s only appropriate that there are restaurants in the city and surrounding areas capitalizing on farm-fresh, local ingredients. Selland’s in El Dorado Hills is one of our favorite farm-to-table stops, where you’ll find sandwiches, pizza, leafy green salads, small bites, and amazing entrees.
Top your El Dorado Hills adventure with a bite to eat and a glass of wine at Bistro 33. The classy and elegant interior of this restaurant provides the perfect setting to enjoy some flatbread, a juicy steak, a sandwich, burger, or panini.
In addition to the many indoor hot spots mentioned above, El Dorado Hills has many opportunities for outdoor adventure.
Head to Folsom Lake Marina to go on a boat ride around the beautiful Folsom Lake! Take a little trip around the lake’s perimeter to dive into the waters at Granite Bay on the western shore. You’ll find a broad sandy beach with a marked swimming area and a lifeguard on duty during the summer.
If weather doesn’t exactly permit a swimming or boating adventure, you can enjoy the great outdoors with a visit to one of El Dorado’s many parks!
Enjoy incredible views of the Sacramento region at Kalithea Park, nestled in a nice neighborhood with lots of space for recreational activities.
Promontory Park is an extremely well-maintained park with an abundance of playground equipment for the kids to play on!
El Dorado Hills Community Park is a great place for humans and canines alike. The park is a serene and beautiful place to go as a family, or to let your dog run around within the small dog and large dog fenced-in parks!
Unwind With a Drink
At the end of the day, it’s time to unwind with a drink and sample some of El Dorado Hills’ local libations.
Stop by 36 Handles Pub and Eatery, an authentic Irish pub offering 36 incredible beers on tap, 12 of which are rotated weekly. Enjoy live musical performances each Saturday night at 36 Handles and relax in the California sun on their outdoor patio during the summer!
As can be inferred from its name, Hop House has amazing craft beers — and some of the best burgers around to accompany your brew of choice. Don’t miss the live music every Thursday night in the exciting and fun atmosphere at Hop House!
Make Yourself at Home
Above all, El Dorado Hills is one of the best residential communities around. You can find a wide variety of home styles in this region, with a significant emphasis on high-end luxury homes.
You’ll find several lakeview homes, houses overlooking peaceful meadows, and massive mansions and luxury properties within exclusive housing communities in the area. El Dorado Hills is known for its rolling hills and expansive views, which means all the more land for homeowners to enjoy.
