Oh La La…Sacramento Self-Help Housing presents Let Them Eat Cake event

let them eat cake

Sacramento Self-Help Housing, a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness in our region, will host their 14th Annual Let Them Eat Cake cake-and-wine eating event in celebration of Bastille Day.

Held at The Grand Ballroom on Thursday evening, July 14, guests will indulge in a fun Bastille Day celebration showcasing outstanding local cuisine, wines and beverages, cake tasting, upbeat music and more. Guests will also enjoy listening to the sounds of the multi-talented musician Gabe Dixon and music by popular local DJ Roderick Mar Carpio (from Le Twist) along with bidding on artwork created by some of the region’s most talented artists.

Each year, the Let Them Eat Cake fundraising event is scheduled on or near Bastille Day (note that Marie Antoinette is credited with coining the memorable Let Them Eat Cake phrase shortly before the French Revolution). The fundraising event supports Sacramento Self-Help Housing and their efforts to identify positive solutions and workable alternatives for local community members dealing with homelessness or trying to break free from a cycle of unstable living situations.

Culinary creations will be prepared by some of the region’s top-notch local bakers and bakeries including Casaundra’s Cakes, La Esperanza Bakery, Simply Sweet by Jessica and Uptown Studios. Wineries on hand to give guests excellent beverage tastings will be Bogle Vineyards, Lava Cap Winery, M2 Winery, Perry Creek Winery, Van der Vijver Estate Winery and Windwalker Vineyard and Winery.

Interested guests are invited to submit their own home-made creations in a spirited and fun cake contest for a chance to win great prizes. Advance entry information is suggested but not required to participate and guests can show up to the event with a cake to be added to the fun competition (note admission cost is waived for those who enter a cake in the competition). Cakes will be judged in three categories: Best Tasting, Most Creative, and Most Beautiful. Plus, deliciously tempting cakes created by professional bakers will be part of the silent auction to add even more excitement to the evening.

The Let Them Eat Cake event will be held at the Grand Ballroom, 1215 J Street in Sacramento on July 14 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. With the exception of cake contest participants, tickets cost $40 per person in advance or $50 at the door.
