‘Gold Rush Experience’ Walking Tours Opens This Weekend

Get ready to walk in the footsteps of history!

Launched in the fall of 2015 by the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation (HOSF), an all-new season of Gold Rush Experience walking tours begins this weekend.

As a companion program to the ever-popular Old Sacramento Underground Tours, visitors interested in the new Gold Rush Experience Tours will enjoy an interpretive and entertaining experience that walks them through Sacramento’s unique history, bringing alive the spirit of the people who built the city from the ground up, several times.

Led by lively and knowledgeable tour guides, guests will learn the intriguing histories of the various Gold Rush era buildings throughout the Old Sacramento Historic District while being entertained with stories about the miners, prospectors, merchants, speculators, savvy entrepreneurs, politicians, Pony Express riders and the series of disasters that early residents had to overcome to make Sacramento what it is today.

To start the season, three tours are available on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:45 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to check the website regularly as tour offerings will expand and change with the seasons.

Gold Rush Experience Tours last approximately one hour and happen rain or shine.  Walking tour guests check in at the Sacramento History Museum (101 I Street in Old Sacramento) and should be prepared to walk in areas with uneven surfaces. Gold Rush Experience Tours cost $15 for adults, $10 for youth (ages 6-17) and children five and under are free.

Advance tour tickets are recommended and can be purchased online at sachistorymuseum.org or by calling 916-808-7059. Private group tours for up to 15 people are also available upon request and are based on availability.  To explore, please email srossi@cityofsacramento.org or call 916-808-1946.
