Get ready to walk in the footsteps of history. Known for their popular Old Sacramento Underground Tour program, the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation (HOSF) is proud to introduce new Gold Rush Experience walking tours in September 2015.
While these dynamic and interpretive tours will officially launch later in the month, special “sneak preview” Gold Rush Experience tours will be available at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the Labor Day holiday weekend (September 5-7). Also, a limited-time Gold Rush Days combo package is available for all three days that includes both tours and admission to the Sacramento History Museum.
Led by lively and knowledgeable tour guides, visitors who choose to take the new Gold Rush Experience tours will enjoy an experience that walks them through Sacramento’s unique history, bringing alive the spirit of the people who built the city from the ground up, several times. Tour guests will learn the intriguing histories of the various Gold Rush era buildings throughout the Old Sacramento Historic District while being entertained with stories about the miners, prospectors, merchants, speculators, savvy entrepreneurs, politicians, Pony Express riders and the series of disasters that early residents had to overcome to make Sacramento what it is today.
All Gold Rush Experience and Old Sacramento Underground tours last approximately one hour in length. Guests need to check in at the Sacramento History Museum (located at 101 I Street in Old Sacramento) and be prepared to walk on uneven surfaces. Gold Rush Experience walking tours cost $10 for adults, $5 for youth (ages 6-17) and Old Sacramento Underground tours – available every half-hour from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. over Labor Day Weekend — cost $15 for adults, $10 for youth and children five and under are free for all tours.
Plus, a Gold Rush Days special combo package is available that includes a Gold Rush Experience preview tour, an Old Sacramento Underground tour and admission to the Sacramento History Museum. The cost for the special combo package is $25 for adults and $15 for youths. All tours and the Gold Rush Days special combo packages are based on availability and advance tour reservations are recommended.
The interpretive tours are coordinated by the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation (HOSF) in partnership with the City of Sacramento, California State Parks, Old Sacramento Business Association (OSBA) and participating merchants and businesses.
