Upbeat & Artsy: Midtown is a Great 2nd Saturday Destination

second saturday

Put on your walking shoes — or hop on your bike — and head over to Midtown Sacramento for special 2nd Saturday Art Walk activities each month.

A center for culture, creativity and vibrancy, Midtown is an exciting 2nd Saturday Art Walk destination where local art galleries and other participating businesses collaborate to host a popular evening open house each month.  Midtown guests will enjoy viewing art exhibits, meeting local artists, sampling food and wine, listening to live music and more.

For instance, on Saturday, August 8, a sampling of the offerings presented by galleries in Midtown include the following:

B. Sakata Garo (920 20th Street) presents a special show highlighting the photography works of Alice Shaw “Mountains (Southwest Nevada Desert)” and a mixed media collage by collaborators Robert-Jean Ray and Lou Bermingham.

Kennedy Gallery (1931 L Street) features “Northern CA Landscapes” that highlights the simple beauty of our region from the coast to the valleys through selected works of Patris and local artists in all mediums.

Red Dot Gallery (2231 J Street, Suite 101) presents the fourth segment of their Common Thread series with new and recent abstract art by talented artists including Lisa Neal, Laurie Vanina and Lynne Cunningham.

Sparrow Gallery (2418 K Street) presents a special reception for artists Diana Jahns, a talented 2nd generation California painter/photographer and the award-winning Rachel Kline.

Union Hall Gallery (2126 K Street) offers a “Tale of Two Artists”: Cheyenne Robinson and Steve Kellison.  Guests will be able to view artwork inspired by low brow culture and Goth. Plus, visitors can watch live chainsaw wood carving by Adam Bradley.

In addition to the special offerings provided by the art galleries on August 8, the ever-popular Midtown Farmers Market is happening that day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the THIS Midtown free summer concert (every 2nd Saturday through September) from 4 to 8 p.m. on 20th between J and K Streets.

Midtown Sacramento is both walkable and bike-friendly with parking available in nearby garages located at 1801 L Street or the East End Garage on 17th Street between L & Capitol plus various lots throughout Midtown.

Supported by the Midtown Business Association, most Midtown Sacramento 2nd Saturday Art Walk activities are available from 6 to 9 p.m. (although times may vary by gallery).  For more information about Midtown art galleries, how to get around, special events and the Midtown Business Association, please visit www.exploremidtown.org.
