Sacramento Republic FC Marches into UC Davis Friendly Match

The Sacramento Republic FC, fresh off two friendly high-profile home losses — one at a sold out Bonney Field to the San Jose Earthquakes of the MLS and another at a sold-out Hughes Stadium against the New York Cosmos — will now head to another friendly encounter at UC Davis against the college squad on Saturday. The 3 pm match at the Aggie Soccer Field on the UCD campus is sold out, though hardly surprising since capacity there is barely over 1,000 (1,200 tickets were sold to last year’s pre-season match between the two teams).

Meanwhile, with the United Soccer League regular season ahead and Sacramento set to defend its 2014 championship, the Sacramento opener at Bonney Field against the always tough LA Galaxy II has been moved back from March 28 to April 11. The delay is due to the construction of an additional 1,300 seats to the stadium’s west side, putting capacity over 11,000, compared to the 8,000 fans it held during the team’s 2014 championship run.

Sacramento will open the regular season on Saturday, March 21 in Seattle against the Sounders FC 2.
