Bacon Tusk cocktail, chocolate chocolate chip bacon cookies, bacon-topped chocolate éclairs and bacon bread pudding. That’s just some of the amazing delicacies offered at the Bacon Fest Sacramento.
What started as a three-day event in 2012 featuring bacon dinners, beer parties and brunches is now a week-long festival that celebrates all things bacon. This year’s Bacon Fest attracted more than 70 eateries and has become one of Sacramento’s signature food events.
The fest kicked off on this week on Monday, January 19th, and will commence Sunday night with the Bacon Week Chefs Competition at Mulvaney’s. The Bacon Fest gets bigger and better every year and has achieved so much traction that the finale chefs competition sold out in less than a day.
For newbies attending the celebration, here’s a tip for next year – the opening parties of the fest is a treat featuring different chefs and their amazing creations. Once hooked, you won’t be able to miss a single day.
I had the privilege to hog down the special bacon burger by Grange, which is by far the best burger I’ve ever have. Next up was the Bacon-topped Chocolate Eclairs. They had a soft bacon flavor with just the right amount of chocolate, giving it a perfect balance of sweet and salty. Special mention also goes out to the brilliant pan-fried bacon meatloaf sandwich of Ella Dining Room & Bar and the Bloody Mary of Mulvaney’s B&L,which had bacon swizzle sticks in the drink. It’s tough to resist these delicacies and you’ll want them to keep coming.
The whole point of the fest is to celebrate the delicacies of local restaurants, the skills of local chefs and, of course, bacon. It’s all about all-natural, quality produce, ditching the factory produce.
And it’s not just about food. The Bacon Fest has multiple bacon-centric events lined up throughout the week. From your favorite Sacramento bands to fun games to a Kevin Bacon Tribute Night, they’ve got you covered.
