Hoping to spread good cheer to those in need this holiday season?
There’s no better way to do it than volunteering at one of the many organizations working to give the less fortunate toys, blankets, meals, or stockings full of everyday necessities.
But where exactly do you find volunteer opportunities? United Way is ready to connect you to the needs of our community with a great online search tool that makes finding opportunities easy.
The Volunteer Center, as the search tool is called, is available all year long, but this December there’s a special search filter that shows particular holiday season needs of organizations.
#Happy2Help opportunities include helping with donation drives and meeting specific volunteer needs such as singing Christmas carols, preparing meals, or volunteering at various holiday events or drop off centers. Loaves & Fishes, Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento, DDSO, and WEAVE are just a few of the organizations asking for your help.
To spread the joy of giving, volunteer members are encouraged to post photos of their work on Facebook and Twitter using #Happy2Help.
United Way California Capital Region launched their Volunteer Center in spring as an easy way to connect Sacramento’s volunteers and donors with 160 local United Way nonprofit partners and other local organizations.
In addition to finding volunteer opportunities, community members can create an online profile that lists their interests and allows them to become fans of participating nonprofits, join volunteer groups, donate unused materials and household items, learn about upcoming events, and advocate for causes.
