Celebrate Specialty Coffee Week with a One-Night Showing of A Film About Coffee

coffee week

Coffee lovers—get excited. As if it isn’t enough that it’s Specialty Coffee Week this week, there’s a special event happening this Thursday that celebrates the amazing work of coffee farmers, baristas, and coffee connoisseurs who make the bean-to-cup process an art form.

The event is the Sacramento premier of “A Film About Coffee”, a documentary that explores the intricate elements of coffee from harvesting to brewing. Playing at Crest Theater, it takes audiences on a trip around the world to the farms in Rwanda and Honduras and coffee shops in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, New York, and Tokyo. The economic and environmental impact of coffee is also explored in this film that spotlights the craft that specialty coffee roasters are particularly—and thankfully—nerdy about.

The cinematography is beautiful and the story unfolds in an interesting and captivating way. It’s obvious that the coffee professionals and farmers who helped tell the story are true experts in their field and you’ll walk away from the film fascinated by their passion and skill. You’ll also gain a greater appreciation for all that goes into making sure the coffee many of us drink on a daily basis tastes not only good, but amazing.

The film is being premiered by Insight Coffee, who has ensured your $15 ticket includes much more than just admission to the Crest. Starting at 6pm, audiences will be treated an hour-long coffee tasting before the film, with coffee by the roasters featured in the film as well as local roasters Insight, Old Soul, Entimos, and Rina Paguagua. Conversations about coffee and coffee milk stout on tap is also a part of the pre-show party.

After the show, audiences will get to take part in a Q&A with Eileen Hassi-Rinaldi (founder of Ritual Coffee Roasters), Carter Gunn (editor of the film) and Lucky Rodrigues (co-founder of Insight). And then it’s off to the after-party at Hot Italian with a free entry for all film guests.

The film is in Sacramento for only one night, so take advantage of a showing of this film that has only played in select coffee cities around the world. Yes, we are among them. Be proud.
