Sacramento SPCA to Host 2nd Annual Blessing of the Animals

Sacramento SPCA to again host a blessing of the animals
Free event to be held at its shelter the first Saturday of October

Sacramento SPCA Blessing of the AnimalsOn Saturday, October 4, 2014, the Sacramento SPCA will host five local Franciscans at its shelter at 6201 Florin-Perkins Road to provide blessings to both the shelter and public animals. Public animals will be blessed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

People of all faiths are invited to bring their pet(s) for individual blessings. The event is free and will take place outdoors (rain or shine) on the promenade in front of the Sacramento SPCA Adoption Center. Dogs must be on leash while cats and other small animals must be in a carrier. A pet food donation to the local pet food pantry is encouraged.

Around this time every year, millions of people from around the world have their pets blessed during an annual blessing of the animals ceremony. The event is held in celebration of the Patron Saint of Animals, Saint Francis of Assisi, and his love for all animals.

Arranged by one of its volunteer dog walkers, Friar Cindy Haug-West, this is the second blessing of the animals the Sacramento SPCA has hosted. Friar Haug-West will be joined by fellow Franciscans from the Ecumenical Order of Saints Francis and Clare in Sacramento.
