The Sacramento River Cats are Going Wild with the Sacramento Zoo

Sacramento Zoo's Mascot Gus the Green Tree Frog

While a River Cat is not an actual species that doesn’t mean you won’t spot Dinger, the Sacramento River Cats Mascot, at the Zoo. Dinger is always a welcomed guest at the Zoo and attends several events throughout the year. Last Thursday, he danced and greeted guests during the Zoo’s Twilight Thursday concert.

Partnering with the River Cats has been a long-standing relationship for the Zoo and this Friday, June 27, the Zoo is excited to travel to Dinger’s turf for Zoo Night at Raley Field. During this game, you may not recognize the River Cats players as they will be sporting special edition animal-themed jerseys that will honor a key member of the team.

The evening will include an in-game silent animal-themed jersey auction, giveaways from the Zoo crew and postgame fireworks! Get to your seats early to see the Zoo’s Mascot, Gus the green tree frog, throw the first pitch for this 7:05 game against the Las Vegas 51s. Tickets can be purchased through the River Cats website.

Net proceeds from the in-game silent animal-themed jersey auction will go to the Sacramento Zoo. If you win, you will get to take home the jersey of your favorite player (or Dinger) after the game!

This Friday, enjoy a cool evening going wild for Sacramento’s baseball team and support the Sacramento Zoo!

April Mae Saenz Johnson

On a daily basis, I see animals from all over the world in one special place: the Sacramento Zoo. I am happy to share inside info, fun facts and photographs of the zoo's animals, staff and events.

In my personal life, I enjoy the sleepy, gross and amazing moments of motherhood, time with my husband and our labradoodle, with a bit of traveling, yoga and volunteering on the Leadership Team for Social Media Club Sacramento.

I am embarking on a new adventure as co-founder of Aging UP, a nonprofit empowering youth with experience in foster care to successfully transition into adulthood.
