Muir Woods: A Photo Gallery

Muir Woods offers tranquility and some of the oldest and tallest redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) in the country. It’s the closest place to San Francisco to enjoy a quiet mile loop through California’s beautiful redwoods.

Muir Woods is just a 2-hour drive from Sacramento, located about an hour north of San Francisco. The park is accessible to everyone for viewing of 800 – 1000 year old, even some 1500 year old, trees.

It was proclaimed by President Theodore Roosevelt as the country’s seventh national monument in 1917. Donated by conservationist William Kent, it was the first national monument created from privately owned land.

Muir Beach is close by and open to the public.
