Despite the popular misconception, Australian Rules Football is NOT rugby. It is a full contact sport that involves aspects of many games including soccer, basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse.
The Sacramento Australian Football Club (SAFC) began in 2009. Since its inception, more than 300 Sacramentans have experienced some form of Aussie Rules Football and the unique culture that goes with it.
The third SAFC tackle season is about to get underway and the club is looking for new players – no experience is necessary!
If the early signs are anything to go by, this will definitely be the biggest season yet. In recent weeks, team trainings have seen more record numbers in attendance.
The league (SacAFL) offers both a men’s and a women’s competition and runs May 10-July 26.
In addition to the local tackle league, the players will also have the opportunity to represent the club with the Sacramento Suns. The Suns will compete throughout the year against other west coast Australian Football teams including the Golden Gate Roos, Los Angeles Dragon, San Diego Lions and also at the National Tournament against other USAFL Clubs at the national championships in Dublin, Ohio.
