Public Safety Weekend Recap, Dec. 27-29, 2013

This is a mulit-source public safety recap from incidents which occurred during the weekend period from Friday, December 27 to Sunday, December 28, 2013 with additional significant fire incidents from December 20th and 22nd.

  1. Earlier in the week….

  4. Friday, December 27th


    13-345247 (Burglary): 5100 block of Folsom Blvd at 0756 hours.

    Officers responded to an area business after employees arrived at work to discover the restaurant had been burglarized.   Forced entry was observed and items inside the business had been damaged by the suspect(s). It appears at this time that no property was taken and a burglary report was generated.

    13-345241 (Burglary): 5700 block of Folsom Blvd at 0737 hours.

    While officers were on scene in the area for the above listed call (13-345247), a second business was found to have been burglarized.  A report was taken.

    13-345404 (Arrest): 200 block of Richards Blvd at 1210 hours.

    An officer passing through the area observed a security guard contacting a subject that was acting suspiciously. The officer was able to handcuff the subject, who then became combative.  Law enforcement officers from a different agency observed the altercation and assisted with the arrest.  No officers were injured.  The subject was identified as Frank Tucker, 40.  Tucker was placed on a parole hold and transported to jail.

    13-345348 (Suspicious Circumstances): 3700 block of Bigler Way at 1022 hours.

    Officers and witnesses in the area heard the sounds of gunshots in close proximity to their location.  A perimeter was established and several yards were searched with the assistance of K9.  No suspects or victims were located and the incident was documented.

  8. Update: Officers are clear the area, no evidence or victims/suspects related to the incident were located
  9. Shots fired, suspect search, Oak Park, December 27, 2013

    13-345576 (Arrest): 6800 block of 14th Ave at 1536 hours.

    Officers responded to a residence for the purpose of a probation search.  Narcotics were located and one subject was also taken into custody for his outstanding arrest warrants.

  11. Saturday, December 28th

  12. MIDTOWN- Another weekend night of violence in the @Faces parking structure. @SacPolice req code 3 backup for large fight early Sat morning.

    13-346180 (Outside Agency Assist): 2100 block of 68th Ave at 0552 hours.

    Officers responded with SFD to a possible explosion.  SFD arson investigator responded and is investigating the case.

    13-346375 (Shooting): 3100 block of 37th St at 1155 hours.

    Officers responded to a report of a shooting.  Officers arrived and located one subject with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. The suspects approached in a red/burgundy sedan, stopped near the victim, asked him a question and then started shooting. Officers collected evidence from the scene.  Follow-up will be conducted.

  14. Drive-by shooting, 37th Street, OakPark, Dec 28, 2013
  15. CITY COLLEGE RT STATION- An armed subject was just taken into custody at City College Lightrail Station. He reportedly got on at the 47th Ave station. No further details.

    13-346729 (Robbery): 400 block of Arden Way at 1825 hours.

    A victim struck up a conversation with two subjects inside a restaurant.  When the victim left, he was approached by the same two subjects and they detained his property.  The suspects went through the victim’s pockets and stole his cell phone, wallet and money before fleeing on foot.

    13-346780 (Assault): 300 block of Las Palmas Ave at 1946 hours.

    Officers were dispatched to a shooting.  A victim relayed that he was driving toward a group of subjects in a park when one subject from the group began firing at the victim’s car.  The driver’s vehicle was hit, however no injuries occurred. Officers responded to the area where the incident occurred and were unable to locate witnesses or suspects.

    13-347078 (Stolen Vehicle Recovery): 3800 block of Rosin Ct at 2330 hours.

    An officer was patrolling a parking lot and found a stolen vehicle.  A suspect walking away from the vehicle was contacted and ultimately arrested.  Javier Vasquez, 31,  was arrested and booked into county jail for possession of the stolen vehicle.  A second subject inside the vehicle was also contacted, identified and arrested.  She was identified as Martha Guillen.  Guillen, 39, was booked for her outstanding warrant.

  20. Sunday, December 29th


    13-347368 (Assault): 6000 block of Dias Ave at 0934 hours.

    A tow employee was attempting to tow a vehicle off of private property when the owner of the vehicle approached, entered the vehicle and attempted to hit the employee with the vehicle.  The employee jumped on the hood during the incident and sustained minor injuries. 

    13-347764 (Robbery): 3600 block of Truxel Rd at 2026 hours.

    A victim was waking to her vehicle when she was approached by a female suspect and assaulted with either the suspect’s fist or a stun gun.  The victim was knocked down, the suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and fled.  The suspect got into an older white sedan and left the area. 

    13-347769 (Death Investigation): 3800 block of Jasmine St at 2035 hours.

    Officers and fire personnel responded to a medical aid call.  SFD transported the 5-year-old girl to the hospital where she later died of her injuries.  The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated due to the age of the child and the circumstances of how she was injured. Homicide detectives and CSI responded and the coroner and CPS were notified.  The case is actively being investigated.

    13-347871 (DUI/Accident): 24th St / John Still Dr at 2333 hours.

    Officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle collision into a garage.  The driver had driven down the road, came to a dead end and attempted to stop the vehicle, however hit a parked car and sent it into a garage.  The driver was contacted and arrested for DUI.  Injuries were not reported.
