At approximately 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning a Sacramento Sheriff’s deputy was waved down be a woman standing outside her vehicle at Mayhew Rd and Kiefer Blvd.
“As the deputy contacted the female, he observed her erratic behavior as she began walking in and out of the roadway talking, but making no sense. The deputy requested a DUI trained officer to respond in order to evaluate the female’s ability to operate a motor vehicle. When the deputy re-contacted the female for identifying information, she began to struggle with the officer“. The department said in a news release.
The woman was able to gain control of her vehicle and in an attempt to flee, she struck the deputy with her vehicle at which time the deputy fired a his weapon as she fled the scene.
The deputy, along with other responding officers pursued the vehicle until the woman pulled into a driveway and was caught while attempted to flee on foot.
The deputy received minor injuries and the woman was transported to a local hospital to be medically cleared for incarceration.
“If and when the suspect is deemed medically clear at the hospital, she will likely be arrested on charges related to assault with a deadly weapon upon an officer“. The department said.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the departments Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division, which is standard practice. The deputy is an eight year veteran assigned to Field and Investigative Services.
