A Caltrans worker surveys damaged, dangling overpass fencing from hit-and-run, vehicle over-the-side incident.

After a hit-and-run accident occurred Friday resulting in a van crashing through an overpass fencing and going over the side, Caltrans crews had the major task of clearing the dangling fencing that was suspended over the freeway from two sides.

Several lanes of westbound Business 80 freeway were shut down for several hours with all lanes being closed intermittently

To clear the damaged fencing Caltrans crews had to cut the dangling section loose with cutting torches allowing the section to crash to the freeway below.

According to SacPD officers, the incident occurred as a two vehicle accident on Marconi near the Auburn Blvd intersection. It resulted in a van crashing through the safety fencing of the overpass and the van going over the side and resting precariously nose down and caught up in the debris.

The other vehicle involved in the the incident fled the scene.
