Group of Tahoe Park residents at odds with proposed development

Developers hope to put in a new apartment building for college students on Redding Avenue in Tahoe Park, but the neighborhood association is demanding cooperation. Campus Crest, a national developer that specializes in student housing, will have a hearing at the Planning and Design Commission Thursday night on the proposed development.

Responsible Development for Tahoe Park circulated a petition around the neighborhood in support of receiving more attention and information from the developer, which some community members have signed.

According to the commission’s agenda, concerns surround increased traffic with nearby Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Highway 50, public safety inside the gated community and pedestrian connectivity in the area.

As proof of community support, the developer submitted letters signed by residents and local businesses to the commission for the Grove Sacramento, a 224-unit housing complex.

The commission hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Sacramento Press will have a more in-depth story later this week.
