2nd Saturday Midtown block party at Marrs Building

2nd Saturday Midtown block party at Marrs Building
A 2nd Saturday event outside the Marrs Building

No matter what block you’re from, everyone is invited to THIS – Midtown’s 2nd Saturday Block Party, a free event hosted at the Marrs Building.

Held once a month from June through September, these outdoor festivals are designed to unite the residents and visitors of Midtown with live music, food and good company.

DJ Shaun Slaughter, who helps with organizing the block parties, says that they’re "definitely for everybody. This is how we see Midtown … but everyone’s invited."

Slaughter continued, "We set out to re-invent 2nd Saturday. [THIS Block Party] is really the community-oriented hub of 2nd Saturday radness."

Contributing to the radness this month is Young Americans Challenging High Technology – more commonly known as YACHT – a band that hails from Los Angeles and is set to headline this month’s block party.

YACHT has released five full-length albums, the last of which debuted in 2012. In the past, they have toured with LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Vampire Weekend. Those who attend the block party can expect to see a performance of YACHT’s conceptual electronic pop/rock music.

Another electro-pop group playing at the block party, Rush Midnight, originates in Brooklyn, New York and has been touring California cities throughout the summer. They make their stop in Sacramento this weekend for the block party.

Local artists Doombird and DJ Crookone are also set to perform at the outdoor miniature music festival.

This month’s 2nd Saturday falls on August 10. Marrs Building is located on 20th and K from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Can’t make it this month? The next and final 2nd Saturday Block Party will be held on September 14th, same place and same time.
