I had the great pleasure to cover the band Radio this weekend at the Ultimate Love Festival.
“OMG,” you need to check this group out. I am almost at a loss for words when it comes to this band, which covers a wide variety of styles – pop, rock, Latin, jazz, R&B and soul.
This isn’t a rubbing – I don’t cover bands that suck. Radio is the shit. They have the look, the moves and the skills to take their act to the next level. It’s Radio’s time to shine.
Currently unsigned, their show is definitely worth going to see. Radio has what it takes to become “the next big group out of Sacramento.” Emmy Award-winning Sacramento music buff Mark S. Allen has dubbed Radio The World’s Best Cover Band."
Radio is a widely respected band whose members have achieved local, national and international success. The band was recognized in the 2012 KCRA A-List contest as one of Sacramento’s top 10 bands, and was also nominated as the best cover band in the 2012 Sacramento Area Music Awards, also known as the SAMMIES. This year they have been nominated as Sacramento’s best local band and in the best music categories in the 2013 KCRA A-list contest.
They’re poised for success and gaining new followers every day, but watching them perform left me thirsty. I wanted more Radio, but I also wanted to hear some original material. They definitely have a new follower here. Radio possesses a sound that is well-blended. Their voices were a compliment to the instruments, and a tribute to the beats.
I know that sometimes groups want to pound out their own niche doing the safe thing by performing others’ material as a cover band, but Radio – I can clearly see them singing a hit song of their own.
Just one thing, please – step out of your comfort zone? Radio has the potential to take Double R.P.S over, raising the bar on the blending of reggae, rock and punk soul. trend, taking the world by storm, selling venues to squeezing room-only status. If there were ever a group that had the potential to do it, Radio’s the one.
Radio is the number one cover band in the city – they have it hands down. With the right writing team and cohesion of ideas, Radio could set the Sacramento new music scene on fire.
Whether tearing up the stage at Thunder Valley Casino Resort or rocking the crowd at the Ultimate Love Connection Festival, no other local Sacramento cover band can compare to Radio.
I wish Radio nothing but wealth and success in their ventures, and with hope, someone with the ability to carry them to the next step will give them the chance they need to become the next big act coming out of Sacramento, performing their own new material.
