Much has been said on Sacramento Press about the proposed McKinley Village project. But a recent article in the Sacramento Bee about proposals for a new railyard have not yet been discussed here. In short, two new sites have been suggested, one of which would encroach on Sutter’s Landing (also a topic during dicussion of McKinley Village) and another that would take the proposed McKinley Village site.
I was wondering what local reactions are to the railyard proposals – and especially how Midtown and East Sacramento residents and neighborhood associations would rank several hundred new single family homes against a train repair facility as potential neighbors. Clearly the housing development has adversaries but railyards don’t exactly have the best reputation for noise mitigation and environmental friendliness either. So which is preferable to people?
