Second gas line rupture in two days on the grid

Fire crews were dispatched for a report of a ruptured gas line Friday afternoon in the area of L Street and 20th Street.

When fire crews arrived they found that a forklift operator had impacted a 1 inch gas line behind Jack’s urban Eats at 1230 20th Street in Midtown. The gas line ruptured in the course of construction work being done adjacent to the building Captain Greg Murdock Sacramento Fire Department, said.

20th Street was closed between L Street and Capitol Avenue. No evacuations were necessary Murdock said. Jack’s was shut down, and the patrons of an adjacent restaurant, dining on the patio, were asked to extinguish their cigarettes.

The call came out at 5:14 p.m. and PG&E had the line shut down before 6 p.m.

This was the second gas line ruptured by workers in the Downtown/Midtown grid area. The prior gas line rupture occurred Thursday morning in the 1100 block of G Street.
