Book Talk extra: Acclaimed poets visit Crocker tonight

Five renowned poets, including the 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner, Sharon Olds, will read this evening, Friday, June 22, at Crocker Art Museum in the Setzer Auditorium. Funds raised from this event will benefit poetry students at the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley.

Also featured are former U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize recipient, Robert Hass, whose book, "What Light Can Do," was nominated for a Northern California Book Award in 2013.

Joining Olds and Hass are Forrest Gander, Brenda Hillman and Evie Shockley.

This is the third time in as many years that a group of poets of this caliber have read in Sacramento, and it may be the last for a few more years.

This year’s event will be hosted by Sacramento’s newest poet laureate, Jeff Knorr, and we know that he’ll do a wonderful job. These events cannot come together without generous sponors and volunteers. This year’s event is sponsored by the Sacramento Poetry Center and Deborah Ruth.

Last year’s event was enjoyed by all attendees and included unannounced guests.

Tickets will be available at the door, but the Community of Writers is unable to accept credit cards. This event is being held at the Crocker Art Museum, but it is not a Crocker event.

Books will be available for purchase, and a signing will follow the reading.

For more information, please check with the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley.

This event begins promptly at 7 p.m.
