Midtown housing development resumes

R Street lofts. (2/2013)

Construction is in progress all around Midtown as several housing projects are back on track.

The progress comes as a relief to many, after the financial downturn caused various developments to stall, restart… and stall again. Builders are currently working at 21st and T streets where 58 homes will go up, most of which are already sold, and 34 energy-efficient at 25th and R streets homes could be for sale soon.

The building plans are ideal according to Wendy Saunders, the new executive director for the Capitol Area Development Authority, who told the Sacramento Bee that young professionals are buying to live near both work and one of the city’s social centers.

Other projects are making progress, including the East End Gateway apartment complex at 16th and O streets and a renovation of a warehouse into artist lofts on R street, between 11th and 12th streets.

Do you think the projects will finally be completed, and would you consider buying one of the properties? How will these developments affect life on the grid? Share your thoughts in the comments.
