Beatnik Studio’s Final Friday features painters, local bands

The underground music and art scenes will open up to the public this week during this month’s Final Friday at Beatnik Studios. The event will feature local painters and live music.

Beatnik’s art director Kelly O’Connell said, “We’re trying to bring some painters that aren’t necessarily well-known yet, but that have some really exciting work. (Final Fridays) are celebrations of their openings.”

This month’s event will showcase two painters, Jeff Mayry (featuring a collaboration with Bobby Edwards) and John Mess. Also featured at the event will be two local bands, Guero and Project 4 Trees, performing live music at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

O’Connell explained the motivation behind the gallery’s features of lesser-known artists, saying, “I think there’s a gap in people being excited about real, actual paintings, real art.” Final Fridays are designed to showcase these local artists to give them exposure to the Sacramento community.

Beatnik’s Final Fridays are held on the last Friday of each month. This month’s event will be May 31st, beginning at 6:00 p.m. It is free to the public, and the artists’ paintings will be available for purchase. Guests of all ages are invited to attend, and refreshments will also be provided.
