Memorial Day Weekend events in Sacramento

Sacramento Music Festival features four days of musical entertainment from Old Sacramento to the Convention Center area.

If you are staying around town this Memorial Day Weekend, you’re in luck: there’s plenty afoot. From honoring our troops (as the day is originally intended) to simply taking advantage of your extra day off, you’ll be able to have all sorts of fun in Sacramento this weekend.

Use your long weekend to hang out at the Sacramento County Fair, this Thursday through Monday at Cal Expo.

Festivals galore:

  • Sacramento County Fair: Cal Expo; Thurs-Sun 10am-10pm; Mon 10am-7pm: Enjoy the friendly atmosphere, traditional county fair competitions, agriculture displays, hands-on family activities, carnival, festival-style entertainment, and specialty foods.
  • Sacramento Music Festival: Old Sacramento; Fri-Sun 11am-Midnight; Mon 10am-4pm: Sure to delight music lovers of all ages, headliners for the 40th anniversary event include Los Lobos, Kenny Wayne Shepard Band, Ben Taylor, The Blasters,and John Lee Hooker Jr., to name a few.
The Crocker Art Museum is open for special Holiday Monday, with activities from 11am-3pm and free entry from 10am-5pm.


Family-friendly:

  • Holiday Monday: Family Palooza: Crocker Art Museum; Mon 11am-3pm: Come enjoy music, learn new dance moves, pose for a fun family portrait, and create your own art. The Museum is also open with free admission from 10am-5pm.
  • Hornblower Memorial Day River Cruise: Capitol Hornblower; Mon 1:30pm & 3pm: This one hour river cruise is the perfect way to cool down while learning about the history of Sacramento and the nature of the water ways. Come aboard this Memorial Day with your family.
Run through the beautiful Folsom Parkway Trails on the Wounded Veterans Run.


Get active:

  • Buzz Oates No Excuses 5K: William Land Park; Mon 7am: All levels of runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in this fun-filled Memorial Day event benefiting Vietnam Veterans of America, Sacramento Valley. The unique age-graded formula guarantees everyone an equal chance of winning the overall title.
  • Wounded Veteran Run: Folsom Parkway Trails; Mon 8:30am: The courses follow the beautiful Folsom Parkway Trails and include a 3K walk, a 5K run/walk, a 10K run, and the newly added Kids Fun Run. This run benefits the Wounded Warrior Project and Fallen Warriors Memorial Organization.

Vettes for Vets takes place this Sunday at the California Automobile Museum.

Honor veterans:

  • Reading of the Names: Memorial Day: California Vietnam Veterans Memorial; Sun 7am: Join in honoring and remembering those California Vietnam Veterans who were killed in the Vietnam War, as well as Veterans from all wars, all services, and those currently serving.
  • Vettes for Vets: California Automobile Museum; Sun 10am-2pm: This annual car show is a memorial to military veterans and Corvettes. Veterans will enjoy over 50 raffle prizes, food trucks coordinated by Sacto MoFo, and music. The car show is also free for spectators and is an excellent event for kids.
