Three years ago, a group of dedicated storytellers launched a monthly series called Straight Talk storytellers. This classic telling is paper free, original work with no reading from the page. Going strong at the Avid Reader on Broadway, four tellers each month compose and tell personal stories on themes they come up with. The fun of improvising and responding to audience response makes these sessions lively and unpredictable, along with a truly diverse stable of tellers. This month the group tells on the theme "Guiding Lights", hosted by Mary McGrath and tellers Mary Baxter Simmons, Stan Forbes, (owner of the Avid Reader) and Tim Sapunor. Musician Rod Simmons accompanies with amazing sensitivity to the content of the stories told. The event is free, but come early to get a seat. 7pm, May 1 at the Avid Reader on Broadway.
