Sacramento interfaith organization The Experience will host Ben Hudson, executive director of Sacramento’s Gender Health Center, as its special guest speaker at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, at St. Paul’s, 1430 J Street in Sacramento. Hudson’s topic will be “A More Authentic Me,” a discussion of diversity and one’s journey to a more authentic gender identity and expression through the lens of spiritual and emotional growth.

Hudson has more than15 years of experience as a community organizer and peer counselor. He has served on the board of the Sacramento Gender Association and is a co-founder of Sacramento Transgender Coalition and TransFamilies Sacramento. He was one of the lead organizers of the Transgender Leadership Summit in 2009 and of the first California Transgender Advocacy Day at the State Capitol in 2010. Hudson also served as a regional field manager for statewide LGBT advocacy organization Equality California following the passage of the anti-gay marriage ballot initiative, Proposition 8, in 2008.

The Gender Health Center opened to the public in July 2010 with a mission “to provide excellent counseling/therapy services to anyone who self identifies or is perceived to be gender variant.” The organization provides accessible therapy and counseling under the guidance of Clinical Director David Nylund, associate professor of Social Work at California State University, Sacramento, and a world-renowned expert on transgender mental health care. The center also offers educational workshops on issues such as gender and name change and a hormone clinic.
