I Wanna Nerd You Up: A Hobbitting we will go!

Gather all ye nerds!

I just want you to know, if you didn’t know already, that December has two great movies coming out.

Quentin Tarantino is going to give us a gift to open on Christmas day: “Django Unchained,” QT’s western about a freed slave in the south that’s out to get his woman back from a “land” owner.

Although I was expecting Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” to be a WWII movie about a team on a suicide mission, it really was more of a tale about a young Jewess’s quest for revenge against the Nazi bastard (Basterd) that killed her family.

Given the time period of "Django Unchained", I don’t think anyone will be dancing to Stealer’s Wheel’s “Stuck in the Middle with You” while holding a cop’s severed ear.

I’ll have fun no matter what if I am at a theater to see a Tarantino movie.

On a side note, why is that when Tarantino sits down for the bonus footage for the DVDs and Blu-rays, he is always looking slightly down and at an angle instead of at the interviewer or the camera?

The other movie a lot of us are drooling into our Cool Ranch Doritos about is “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.” It opens nationwide on Dec. 14.

This is the first movie in “The Hobbit” trilogy and stars Martin Freeman (of the original “The Office” fame) as Bilbo Baggins. A few of the cast members from “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy return, such as Ian McKay as Gandolf the Grey.

A little nerd bird told me that if you are planning on seeing the move at the IMAX theater that you should go in costume.

The theater is holding a contest for anyone who is wearing a Hobbit-themed costume and takes a photo using the IMAX Theatre’s iSnap Social photo station between Dec. 14 and Dec. 31. One winner will be chosen in three costume categories: Best Individual, Best Child and Best Group.

Winners will receive a prize package containing an official “The Hobbit” movie poster, a t-shirt and four Esquire IMAX movie passes.

Another bonus you may or may not know about, which you automatically get, is that Paramount will be showing nine minutes of the new “Star Trek” movie, “Star Trek Into Darkness” as a preview before “The Hobbit.”

Maybe I’ll go as a Hobbit that’s been assimilated by the Borg.
