OPEN LETTER TO COUNCILMEMBER JAY SCHENIRER

Councilmember Jay Schenirer, District 5
915 I Street
Sacramento CA 96814

September 24, 2012

Dear Councilmember:

Before I state my complaint I will make a quick comment. You have stated that, “This is perhaps the most exciting time to live in Oak Park in over 50 years.” From one point of view you are correct. However, and I have raised this issue at council, if you are black you are witnessing gentrification of your village at an alarming rate. The economic injustice black Americans have experienced since our beginning is still at play; and now that same economic injustice is being used to push people out. Every day I see young blacks who are made more and more outcasts in their own neighborhood.

While you ponder gentrification (or not) please address this complaint and have the lot at the corner of Broadway and San Jose cleaned up. The included picture shows three large items of furniture and a pet cage that have been there over a month. The truck shown in the photograph was gone when I drove past the lot on September 24TH at 9:20 pm.

Thank you,

Henry Harry
