Forum podcast to highlight Sacramento’s neighborhoods

Patrick Kennedy and Isaac Gonalez

A pair of community activists and bloggers have teamed up to produce a new local podcast called "Forum" that will highlight all of Sacramento’s  50 plus neighborhoods in the next year.

The duo behind the project is Patrick Kennedy, a school board member and food blogger at eatingfranklinblvd.com and Isaac Gonales, who runs the news aggregation and commentary blog ranSACkedmedia.com along with the local politics podcast Current. ( Kennedy also worked with Gonzaled on Current, but left to pursue Forum).

I’ll be trailing the pair next week to write a full feature on the show and how it’s produced.

In the meantime, you can learn more about the show on its website, forumtownsquare.com, and in this press release that was sent out last night:

AUGUST 20, 2012- Forumtownsquare.com, a new website that will feature a bi-weekly podcast called simply Forum, is planning to visit and highlight over 50 neighborhoods within the City of Sacramento during its first year of production. The show’s hosts, School Board Member Patrick Kennedy and independent local journalist Isaac Gonzalez, are launching the new venture on the heels of their other successful projects, eatingfranklinblvd.com and ranSACkedmedia.com, both of which have received considerable media coverage during their brief time on the local scene. Native Sacramentans Kennedy and Gonzalez each possess a rich history of community activism and organizing, which serves as the inspiration from their latest media venture.

“This is an opportunity for people to talk about their community,” says show host Patrick Kennedy. “ It’s Sacramento’s digital town square; a place where someone with something to say will have a forum to do so. Opening the lines of communication between the show and the audience, the hosts and the community, is what makes our idea unique. We’re going to depend on our listeners to find out more about the diverse tapestry of neighborhoods that makes up Sacramento, learn through their eyes what gives each street its identity.”

Each week, two new shows will be available each for free at forumtownsquare.com, and soon also within the iTunes store itself. Podcasting is quickly becoming the go-to format for self-publishing and innovative content production. Normally, a podcast consists of an mp3 or video file that can be downloaded and played on a computer or portable media device. Individual podcasts appear as episodes that are updated daily or weekly. By subscribing to a podcast, the consumer receives automatic updates.

New episodes of Forum will feature hosts Kennedy and Gonzalez, as well as a team of regular correspondents made up of local writers and insightful pundits from their base of operations, Tahoe Park Studios. Additionally, each week the Podsquad will venture into one of Sacramento’s neighborhoods for a show recorded live on location. Listeners who have ideas for future shows are invited to contact the show via email at forumtownsquare@gmail.com.
