International Kids Festival

The eighth annual International Kids Festival was once again held at William Land Park next to Fairytale Town on Saturday. The festival showcased a magnificent display of international dances and performances, bringing different world cultures to the amphitheater.

Children were at the heart of the International Kids Festival. Announcements were made in both English and Russian.

Expected rain and thunderstorms stayed away until after the festival was over. Occasional clouds hovered, but it remained warm during the event.

The colorful sounds and beautiful costumes were displayed on stage as various performance and after-school programs showcased the talents of its students.

Athletic, singing, dancing events took place at the William Land Park Amphitheater.

The largest contingency of performers and visitors were of Russian heritage, and as such co-hosts Marina Filistovich and Oksana Filatov took turns speaking in English and Russian.

Several raffles were held throughout the day for Funderland Amusement Park passes and a kids Huffy bicycle.

Attendants at several booths handed out informational materials about schools programs, insurance, banks and phone companies, and representatives from SMUD, McDonald’s, Russian American Media, Cal Expo and many other organizations were on hand.

International Kids Festival

The Kids Festival served several purposes. Visitors were able to enjoy their own cultures and those of other countries. School and art programs performed and advertised their summer programs for youngsters. Most importantly, it allowed families to enjoy a delightful day of international culture.

This continues to be a free event, and the popularity of the festival continues to increase. The beautiful setting gave visitors the opportunity to also visit other Land Park attractions.

International performances included the Mor Taiko Japanese drum group and the Mongolian dance group. Several performances by the Malko Dance Studio and Folklorico Calli also enchanted the audience. Magician Valeriy Rotar made a couple appearances between acts.

The Kids Festival moved smoothly from one performance to the next, inspiring pride among the large audience. Children sat at the edge of the stage, mesmerized by the colors, costumes, sounds and performances at the event.
