Region Builders, a building industry coalition founded by the Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange that includes thirteen esteemed local trade and professional associations and industry businesses, has endorsed Sacramento City Council Candidate Phyllis Newton for District 4.
Phyllis Newton is a long-time resident of Sacramento who has been civically engaged in public service with the City of Sacramento for nearly a decade, and is the front-runner to fill the Council seat being vacated by Councilmember Rob Fong. She has served on numerous city commissions and advisory committees, as well as sharing her expertise with multiple non-profit organizations in the region. Notably, Ms. Newton served as the Executive Director of an esteemed member association, the American Institute of Architects-Central Valley, which serves as a professional association of architects in seventeen California Counties. For the last 22 years Phyllis has worked as a practicing construction attorney specializing in the representation of urban design professionals in our region. She also currently serves as the unpaid volunteer Executive Director for Miyamoto Global Disaster Relief, a non-profit organization providing technical assistance for disaster reconstruction efforts around the world.
Her number one priority will be making the City a better place to do business and creating jobs for the local community. She will strive to bring the Council together to help Sacramento reach its massive potential.
Bill Porter, Board President of Region Builders, explained how Region Builders was excited to support such a strong leader for City Council. “Ms. Newton understands the considerable challenges facing our local building industry, as well as its significance for our region’s economic recovery. We could not be happier to support such an outstanding candidate for Sacramento.”
Phyllis Newton described her appreciation for receiving such a strong early endorsement. “I am truly grateful to have the early support of an industry that has contributed so much to our local community. If elected, I will work tirelessly to remove roadblocks for economic growth, and create a vibrant local economy our City can be proud of,” stated Ms. Newton.
