In our organization, we call them "unsheltered" because that distills it down to the factual differences between "us" and "them" - we are sheltered, they are not.
So what could you guys get behind - I think I understand your objections - gift of a home vs. earning it; total reliance on taxpayer dollars vs. a plan of long range sustainability - what else would you need to see in order to support a housing initiative? What works?
My understanding is that a good portion of that land was publically owned and zoned for an emergency shelter - I believe that the Safe Ground folks do not want to break the law - they would rather live within the law, peacefully, but the state of the law in Sacramento does not permit that. It is effectively illegal to be homeless in Sacramento. With the shelters full and closed, there needs to be a better approach to the situation.

Loaves & Fishes operates within their city permit, which is why they have the hours they do. Greg Bunker devoted his professional life to helping those less fortunate in his community that he loved. He was a wonderful man, a great father, and a loving husband. Instead of using this sad occasion to take pot shots at my dear departed friend and colleague, take a good long look at yourself.
