I have lived in Sacramento since 1963. I can't seem to get away from this side of town. I remember walking to the fair when I was very young, learning to drive in the fairgrounds parking lot, and fighting the old tracks embedded in the street driving down Stockton Blvd...Oops, sorry, a wave of nostalgia just knocked me off my chair.

It is the art installation at the county clinic on the corner of Stockton & Broadway. It's the Paul F. Hom Medical Building. I love getting such color right on a main drag.

Indeed--although I think part of it was originally known as "Colonial Acres." Lots of neat little Craftsman bungalows in that part of town. The staff at the Sacramento Archives did a book on Tahoe Park, Colonial Heights, and the small neighborhood just north of UCDMC called Elmhurst.

Until about 1946 there was a streetcar line that ran along Stockton Boulevard and down 21st Avenue. That allowed residents to ride to work downtown, although that line also carried interurban passengers south all the way to Stockton until the early 1930s. After the streetcar was taken out of service, the same railroad carried freight trains down Stockton and 21st Ave. until 1966.

The old state fairgrounds were north of Broadway--there are still a couple of the old fair buildings left.
