Conversation about: Backyards still closed to chickens

I've never heard of chickens attracting predators any more than a pet cat or small dog does. Unless of course you mean a whole lot of chickens, which is not an option as part of this proposal. No one is required to take a class before they get a dog or cat, animals which in most cases need much more attention and special care than a chicken in order to survive. Also, the sort of people who live in new homes with postage stamp sized yards (inevitably in some newer urban sprawled development) are highly unlikely to want chickens at all.

Am I allowed to reply to replies? Person 1) Why can't they reassign redevelopment funds that are being utilized by morons for education instead? Because the people who run governments are also morons. Person 2) Your neighboring city must be a wonderful, and BUM-free place. What city was that again? But I'm guessing from your comment that you have never actually been to downtown Sacramento. The reason people do not go there to shop is that there is almost nowhere TO shop. That stuff is in "midtown". We use our downtown for mermaid storage, thank you very much. Oh, I mean mermaid/bum storage. Person 3) Hmm, when did society decide that clubbing was for 20-somethings? Well, lets clarify something before we answer that question. Nightlife and clubbing are two entirely different and not necessarliy mutually agreeable things. Nightlife can involve live musicians, classy patios, jazz performers and age-appropriate dancing, poetry readings, sweet little cafes with a view of the street, and sometimes clubbing--among other things. But hopefully by the time you are old enough to need that push-up bra and a babysitter before you hit the club dance floor, you will have realized that the classy dancing and jazz singer are more your style (or the poetry slam). Plus, you know your back is going to hurt from trying to bump and grind with strangers in those massive heels all night. Need I say more?

Conversation about: City Council gives final approval to Curtis Park Village

OK, I should note, there are some amazing small and locally owned businesses here, and some really amazing, creative, talented people who live here. But stuff like this has to be pretty depressing for them as well.

I like how most of their planned "retail" area is giant parking lots and big-box convenient buildings. Creative. Maybe we can put in another Super Walmart like in South Sac? And that one little bridge over the railyard will really encourage pedestrians and public transit riders to utilize those huge parking lots! Actually, it looks really familiar. Oh yeah, I'm thinking of Rancho Cordova! Wow. I don't want to spend my money in a place run like Sac is, it's kind of sickening. I want something positive to be able to crow about in the city I've lived in all my life, but everytime I look it's all bad. Maybe I should just go to The Dive Bar and have a drink--I'm sure the real, live mermaids will cheer me up. Or maybe I'll tie some bags of cement to my ankle and take a dip in the tank myself. I guess the one flicker of hope is those amendments--which it would have been nice to hear a little more about, O Sac Press. . . .

Conversation about: Backyards still closed to chickens

I grew up with a few backyard chickens in the suburbs. They were clean and fun, and the eggs were delicious (as well as cheaper than store bought eggs). Plus, you can feel good knowing that the animals producing your food are well taken care of, and THUS, less likely to get any diseases or produce eggs that will cause salmonella (sp?) poisoning. Why is this even in question? Sounds like our city council knows less about sustainable lifestyle choices than the average hick. Alas.
