Where is the real incentive for the Kings to move to Anaheim? If they move, they will receive $50 million from Anaheim, but they have to repay $70 million to Sacramento. They lose $20 million. Sacramento is busy with plans to build a new arena complex. Anaheim wants to lock the Kings into a 15 year contract with an arena that is already 18 years old! This looks like a goofy business deal for the Maloofs.
I love this series. Thanks for untangling the web of confusion surrounding legal matters. Bravo!!
I am glad to see some progress being made on this issue. The water funds, for example, are so complicated that the average citizen has a very difficult time doing their own auditing. As an average citizen, that was my circumstance.
Please file this memo on the City Hall Whistle-Blower Hotline when it is up and running: "Hey, someone is trying to give Cal Expo to greedy land developers who want to tear it down and build glamorous river front properties. In exchange, we will get our downtown train station refurbished. This will include a brand new basketball arena. I guess people who ride public transportation are big basketball fans? Oh, and if we want a new Cal Expo we get to convert a broken down basketball arena in Natomas!" I'm not kidding! No madam, this is not some wild conspiracy theory!
Info Update: The 3-hour 14-bout fight card airs 8/31/10 Tuesday night at 7pm on Access Sacramento, Comcast and Surewest Cable ch. 17 in Sacramento County. Or watch worldwide at that time at AccessSacramento.org - Select Watch Ch 17. The program will repeat at different times.
Access Sacramento was there taping the event! Check it out when it airs on Comcast channel 17. http://www.accesssacramento.org/
I was told, by a total stranger, that the City offers a $1500 reward for reporting taggers who are then apprehended and successfully prosecuted. Is this true or just a rumor? Imagine! We could form a group of midtown bounty hunters and split the reward!
I applaud the Sacramento City Council for voting in favor of the green economy!
Thank you Council members!
Well, you know about 50% of Californians voted YES on Prop 8. These people are against gay marriage, so I guess they are intolerant of any articles, in the Sac Press, that reflect the gay diversity that thrives in Sacramento. I just can't figure out what someone would have against a bunch of dykes celebrating at the capitol. Some of my best friends are lesbians! God bless 'em!
I live in midtown and I am still amazed that people will throw away perfectly good items into the trash; used clothing, working appliances and other household items. It's really a shame! There is a great deal of energy and resources that go into making these things and they could be used by someone else who might need them. I will admit that I have scavenged used things, from dumpsters, from time to time. If you don't want me to dig through your trash, then please put slightly used clothing and other things in a box, placed next to the trash, labeled "FREE". If you don't want the old chinese couple to root around for those CRV bottles and cans, put them in another box next to the trash, labelled "Recycle $$$ Cans & bottles". With a little common sense, and a dash of compassion for less-fortunate citizens in our community, you can eliminate the annoyance of dumpster diving. By consistently keeping all the good stuff out of the trash, there is no incentive.
The decor is beautiful and I was hoping for a great Indian restaurant in midtown. Even though the food had a nice presentation, it was not very good. The Chicken Tikka Masala tasted like Ragu mixed with half-n-half. The Korma was very un-eventful also. If you want to taste the best Indian food, in the area, I would suggest you visit Pooja in West Sacramento. The flavors are complex and the food is very fresh. I would suggest that the cook from Bombay also pay a visit.
This is a great website that exposes the SMI for what it is; a strong initiative for land developers! http://bossmayor.com Please sign the petition too.
This is a very old tactic that has been used for centuries. The commenter attacks the messenger, instead of debating the merits of a certain position. This is a tool that is cleverly used in the media all the time. For example, people can be labeled "racist" if they criticize President Obama. People will choose to tune-out the message because the messenger has now been labeled "undesirable"; and no one wants to get advice from someone like that. right? The level of skill wielded by the media is far greater than the skill-set of most internet comment writers. When they choose to attack the messenger, their warrant-less name calling only makes them look like buffoons.
Racial profiling is a terrible policy and during the past few years there has been some effort to deter law enforcement from targeting people based on the color of their skin. This Arizona law only encourages police to pull over folks who are DWB (driving while brown). Show me your papers! I do not wish to see our Hispanic friends and neighbors hassled in this manner. Californians would be wise to avoid this policy.
Vandalism is an age old problem, for urban areas, and midtown trees are not the only victim. I have seen drunken guys climbing a streetlight and knocking off the decorative "glass" top, only to run away into the night. In another occurrence, passer-byes smashed my neighbor's window for no apparent reason. Also, tagging is out of control; you can find samples on garbage cans, houses, businesses, etc.
How much will it cost to turn a broken down basketball arena into a shining new Cal Expo? It doesn't even have a monorail? How much is a new one? Or is it more cost effective to salvage bits from the existing Cal Expo? This doesn't seem very green to me. Cal Expo aint broke, so why rebuild it? I think the great citizens of Sacramento would prefer that the money is spent on a light rail extension to the airport! It would be far less expensive too. It would connect with the existing arena. That's the only arena-transportation connection we need.
Wow, we can actually agree on something.
Sorry folks, but this is an awful way to try to fill the deficit gap for public transit! The fares are too high already for the working poor; people need to get to their job and high fares encourage people to cheat. The economy of Sacramento depends on a healthy RT system. We need a reliable way to get people from point A to point B. This is vital for business! Therefore, it only makes sense to subsidize!!
