Where is the real incentive for the Kings to move to Anaheim? If they move, they will receive $50 million from Anaheim, but they have to repay $70 million to Sacramento. They lose $20 million. Sacramento is busy with plans to build a new arena complex. Anaheim wants to lock the Kings into a 15 year contract with an arena that is already 18 years old! This looks like a goofy business deal for the Maloofs.

I live in midtown and I am still amazed that people will throw away perfectly good items into the trash; used clothing, working appliances and other household items. It's really a shame! There is a great deal of energy and resources that go into making these things and they could be used by someone else who might need them.
I will admit that I have scavenged used things, from dumpsters, from time to time. If you don't want me to dig through your trash, then please put slightly used clothing and other things in a box, placed next to the trash, labeled "FREE". If you don't want the old chinese couple to root around for those CRV bottles and cans, put them in another box next to the trash, labelled "Recycle $$$ Cans & bottles".
With a little common sense, and a dash of compassion for less-fortunate citizens in our community, you can eliminate the annoyance of dumpster diving. By consistently keeping all the good stuff out of the trash, there is no incentive.

The decor is beautiful and I was hoping for a great Indian restaurant in midtown. Even though the food had a nice presentation, it was not very good. The Chicken Tikka Masala tasted like Ragu mixed with half-n-half. The Korma was very un-eventful also.

If you want to taste the best Indian food, in the area, I would suggest you visit Pooja in West Sacramento. The flavors are complex and the food is very fresh. I would suggest that the cook from Bombay also pay a visit.

This is a very old tactic that has been used for centuries. The commenter attacks the messenger, instead of debating the merits of a certain position. This is a tool that is cleverly used in the media all the time. For example, people can be labeled "racist" if they criticize President Obama. People will choose to tune-out the message because the messenger has now been labeled "undesirable"; and no one wants to get advice from someone like that. right?

The level of skill wielded by the media is far greater than the skill-set of most internet comment writers. When they choose to attack the messenger, their warrant-less name calling only makes them look like buffoons.

Racial profiling is a terrible policy and during the past few years there has been some effort to deter law enforcement from targeting people based on the color of their skin. This Arizona law only encourages police to pull over folks who are DWB (driving while brown). Show me your papers! I do not wish to see our Hispanic friends and neighbors hassled in this manner. I have seen drunken guys climbing a streetlight and knocking off the decorative "glass" top, only to run away into the night. This doesn't seem very green to me. Cal Expo aint broke, so why rebuild it?

I think the great citizens of Sacramento would prefer that the money is spent on a light rail extension to the airport! It would be far less expensive too. It would connect with the existing arena. That's the only arena-transportation connection we need.

The economy of Sacramento depends on a healthy RT system. We need a reliable way to get people from point A to point B. This is vital for business! Therefore, it only makes sense to subsidize!!

Let's focus on simple "Grey water systems" for the home. Grey water is the used water from showers, bathtubs, sinks, dishwashers and washing machines. Instead of sending this water down the drain to be treated with tons of chemicals and dumped into the delta, re-route this water to your landscaping! There are lots of ideas on the internet to help you design your plan. It can be simple and inexpensive to do it yourself. Naturally, do not use the water from the toilet; this is called 'black water". Use bio-degradable soaps in the bath, washing machine & dishwasher.

Where do the police officers ride their bicycles? That's right! On the sidewalk. Is it simply a matter of "do as I say, not as I do"? Or, is there a tactical advantage for police officers to ride their bicycles on the sidewalk? Are police officers better trained, than the common citizen, at navigating the sidewalks, on their bicycles, amongst pedestrians? Perhaps they feel that the sidewalks are safer for themselves and their equipment.

When I ride downtown, I use bike lanes wherever possible. I also ride on the sidewalk. OK? There are streets with no bike lanes and lots of traffic. I like to ride to Cesar Chavez Park, for example. If you ride a bike, you know what I'm talking about.

The city doesn't pay me to put my life in danger, nor does it cover my medical expenses in the event of an accident. So please don't coerce me with some city code to do otherwise.

Most of the time, there are stretches of sidewalk without any pedestrians at all. But when there are, I ride safely and I am courteous.

And besides. Part of the fun of bicycling is riding on the sidewalk!!! I feel like a kid again!

The Kings already have a stadium. Spend some money on an upgrade, including the possible building of a new arena at the same site; if funding sources permit.

Otherwise, spend some money that will help the Kings and Sacramento area residents. It costs about $22 million per mile to run light rail track. So the airport line, via the kings stadium, would cost about $300 million with a couple stations.

Perhaps the rail yard site would be better served by a minor league Football stadium. Let's face it. In these hard times, we already have a well crafted, but kinda ugly, pro basketball stadium. We also have a nice minor league stadium across the river. Let's spend dollars on boosting the infrastructure to make these facilities accessible by the public; namely light rail and bus service. And leave Cal Expo alone! It aint broke so don't fix it!

A small group of people started gathering in front of McClatchy High School today, at 3 o’clock, to show their support for gay rights. Among the group, were protesters who had gathered earlier at the capitol, students from neighboring schools, and the press.
It was nearing the scheduled time for the arrival of the notorious anti-gay protester, Fred Phelps and his clan, from the Westboro Baptist Church. They were scheduled to arrive at 3;15pm, according to their website godhatesfags.com.
The high school was ready with a dozen staff members standing guard in the front drive way. A number of students chose to dine in restaurants across the street, having a nice vantage point to enthusiastically view the scene.
At 3:20, the school bell rang and students began to flood through the front doors. As the front of the school filled with students, more supporters joined the group. Some were wearing pro-gay t-shirts and others were wearing rainbow colored ribbons. Several students identified themselves as members of the gay-straight student alliance at high school. Other students made the point that they were straight, but believe in mutual respect for all people.
The mass of demonstrators became larger. As cars drove by, honking their horns, the crowd would roar with delight. What was planned as a counter-protest became a gathering of people with a love for freedom and equality. The diversity of the crowd was greeted with the smiles on people’s faces.
People didn’t seem too disappointed that the guest of dishonor hadn’t arrived. The reverend had also missed his appointment at the Capitol, scheduled for 1:10pm. Rumors were circulating that their flight had been cancelled due to snow. These reports have not been confirmed.

I don't feel safe having a mayor that is so strong that he doesn't have to answer to the people. Nestle' Waters comes to mind.

Look out for full-body scanners at airports. You will not be safe from cancer causing radiation! I doubt it will have any affect on terrorism either.

Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

"The Vandals were an East Germanic tribe that entered the late Roman Empire during the 5th century...The Vandals are perhaps best known for their sack of Rome in 455. Although they were not notably more destructive than others, the high regard which later European cultures held for ancient Rome led to the association of the name of the tribe with vandalism: senseless destruction, particularly in diminution of aesthetic appeal or destruction of objects that were completed with great effort."

Since the writing appears on bathrooms walls with limited aesthetic appeal I would not qualify them as 'vandalism'.

I compost in my midtown backyard. It works great if you mix the leaves 50/50 with grasses. I also add worms to help with composting. It takes a little over a year for the compost to turn into a nutrition-rich soil. Use this soil in planter boxes and potted plants. It is perfect for the home gardener and foliage enthusiast.

Welcome to California, with some of the most potent varieties of marijuana you will find! Amsterdam is probably the only place on Earth that can compete with the herbs available here. It is not uncommon, for people who have never experienced California grown cannabis, to believe that it is laced with some other drug. They will often say, "How can I be this f***ed up with just weed? This must be laced with some dangerous drug!" If you do a google search for "pot brownie" recipes, you will find that other drugs are not typically an ingredient; if ever. The fact is, the marijuana is that strong!

For the adventurous, here is a recipe for cannabutter. Simply add this, instead of regular butter, to your favorite brownie recipe.
http://www.youtube.com/hempnainteasytv#p/u/3/M0aSr4buihA

For a healthier alternative, you may subsitute cannabis infused olive oil for the cannabutter! Here's the link for the recipe: http://www.youtube.com/hempnainteasytv#p/u/6/vs66uyiH968

(Special notice: you must have a doctor's recommendation to legally make and eat 'pot brownies' in this State!)

Let's face it! There are people in this city who care deeply about a new arena. It is the state of the sports empire business. I think the railyards is the perfect location for a sports arena complex. There is nice access to Richard's Blvd and 7th Street. The mix of the older structures with new facilities should be striking. Lightrail access has already broken ground. A sports complex on the riverside has a nice look for the city.

The City & County have an obligation to fund and maintain this asset. $6 million is a paultry sum of money to allow the system to denigrate further with higher fares and service cuts. A robust system, charging reasonable fares, is unequivocally the life blood of Sacramento. Moving people from workplaces, to merchants and to homes is the key to a healthy local economy. * HIV alone cannot cause AIDS, it requires co-factors
    * Oxidative stress is the most important co-factor
    * The immune systems of people that are healthy and properly nourished render HIV harmless

I even recruited the excellent assistance of Colleen at the Sacramento Press. I learned that it is a very complicated process. Something doesn't seem right here and I was hoping to dig up the truth. For example, Why would the installation of water meters raise the fees for sewer and storm drainage. I can understand a possible increase for the water. Another fishy tale; while water meters were being installed, the city advertised that water service would cost a flat base fee of $7.77 plus a volume usage charge. They want to raise that base to over $21.00 by 2010. This kind of price manipulation seems illegal if not downright scandalous. Can we get some expert citizen accountants to look over the books???

The City of Sacramento must consider public transportation to be a key asset to the city. Let's divert city funds from less important project goals to meet the $6 million shortfall. Let's use $2 million from the the budget allocated to the revitalization of K Street. A populated light rail system is essential to the growth of the K Street mall shoppes. Let's use another $2 million from the Old Railyard Project. Same benefit applies. Finally, it would be nice if we could borrow another cool $2 million from the New $50 million Sacramento Courthouse. OR, perhaps we could delay the demolition and takeover of Cal Expo for another couple years.

Why are people crossing the street at the railroad tracks?? The most likely reason is a bus stop right near the tracks and across the street from the lightrail station (Clearly visible in images 4, 6 & 7 of this article). If you want to be legal, it's actually about 100 feet to the crosswalk, 30 feet crossing the street and then another 80 feet to get to the bus stop. If I was in this situation, I would take the shortest distance from point A to B.

Instead of raising the fare prices to unfair levels, RT needs to lower prices and rethink their game plan. I would like to see a special monthly pass for light rail riders at a significantly lower price; how about $35.00. I hardly ever use the bus, but I would use light rail everyday for my work commute. Besides, it costs a lot less to operate the lightrail, per mile, than it costs to operate the bus; bus service costs about 4 times as much. That's the ticket! Offer a menu of monthly pass options; A lightrail pass, a bus pass and the lightrail/bus combo. That's forward thinking in today's economy!

Look around, more & more people, in the midtown grid, are riding bicycles. The city needs a dedicated bike trail that runs from midtown to Old Town. K Street would be the perfect thoroughfare for bike lanes. Add bike racks as well. Currently, K Street does not permit bike traffic. This policy is not in sync with today's green conscious trend setters.

It's funny how the press describes this H1N1, also known as the Mexican swine flu, with precise detail.

In actuality, the screening tests for this "deadly flu" are anything but specific.

It is a basic human need to defecate and urinate; just like breathing and sleeping. The city should recognize this fact and provide an adequate number of facilities for this purpose. Unfortunately, public restrooms are very rare. The few that exist in midtown are often locked shut. John Galt is correct that businesses often reserve their bathrooms for paying customers only. Some enforce their policy by requiring patrons to pick up the bathroom key from the cashier behind the counter. Do you believe that private businesses should be responsible for the bathroom needs of the general public? If so, ask your property manager to install a porta-potty next to your covered parking. Problem solved!
