bill i spent years attempting to be a part of midtwon neighborhood assoc.and found myself and my then friend now wife on the odd side of the founding members for years, as we wanted to support development and business friendly events etc. as we believe healthy business equals a healthy city ($) ,, we tired and left i took my passion to Midtown business assoc. and then an entertaining mayoral run.. I now am engaged in getting residents involved ( btw, the 17 were all residents excluding paragary how dare you discount them or their opinions / motivations for being there) as usual you are deciding what you feel is right or wrong. let the residents speak if 2,000 locals show up to the bloc for an event or hell just go out to the clubs then they must like it....and further more if more suburbanites from other cities and counties bring their money to our city then good for us maybe it will keep a pool open or two .... and dale my friend, business has always been open to the neighbors ...There has been some bad behavior on the part of a few neighbors concerning the business owners rights and abilities to earn a living . & personally i feel the business owners both in the entertainment and development fields have been more than compliant/ tolerant throughout the years.. Time to support midtown and its growing into the entertainment destination it deserves....lets make things happen,, not stop them..

i watch council last night ( i am on injured reserve thus no life) and was appalled at how easily they were gonna raise our rates.. they are an entrerprise fund,, fee for service,, very little of their money is associated with the general fund and what is are the services they are cutting..
I dont know enough about their financial structure to truly understand their financial plight but i do know that my business is affected by the economy yet i dont get to raise my rates to compensate..I am offended they arent doing more with less as we all have to do .... ( id like to throw smud in that list as well) RT gets a pass as their money is mostly derived from sales tax dollars which are obviously down .. my fiscal conservatism is glaring this week

zen , (not that it matters ,, but i still want to know who you are :-) )
thank you for your comments .I replied to Mr burgs comments out of anger this morning and went to lunch feeling bad . I read my re read my statement ( it is all factual) Mr. burg makes it sound quite fluffy yet it has not been healthy communication for quite sometime nor transpearant and it was only my frustration during the midfest preperation time that was a last straw sort of moment ..
I am happy with the results.. there are more neighbors becoming engaged and possibly now we will force Mr. Cohn ( & staff) to actually mitigate the negative impacts that have upset a small group of neighbors for so long.. i.e. your comments of street lights , trash cans public restrooms parking restrictions etc. ( all of these things i have advocated at MBA for over 10 years ) I hoped i wouldnt have to jump back into this mess to create results. But obviously that is what it takes . I agree midtown needs more creative and diverse retail . This is all market driven ,, the more people coming to midtown the more this will happen , along with the return of many other more traditional retail services, ( hardware stores, housewares, food, clothiers etc.) I still want the worlds biggest apple store on K street , ESPN Zone maybe dave and busters, stike zone bowling alley all those cheesy suburban things...in additon to our fantastic independant retail that makes us midtown and downtown.. This will take more housing and in the case of K street or even other urban infill ,,subsidies to lower the cost of housing , we need to be below 300 per sq ft to make it affordable & to pencil for developers...omg now im rambling ..i told myself after reading Mr. burg's response to my reply i was done.. .. gnite all ,,,thanks to all for showing up ..."your voice is not heard if you do not speak"...oh Mike W..
bill the defensive nature is not apropriate.. shawn this and that etc. i have been active in my neighborhood assoc ( was once vice chair) as well as midtown business association. it has been 10 years of attending these meetings and on many counts i have been in line with the steadfast group of NAG attendees and otherwise reuglar neighborhod activists. However when it has come to entertainment venues , live music which includes the live music at bars and restaraunts as well my opinion that it is overall good for the city has been discounted . to the point that i am not included in neighborhood email loops any longer .. purposely excluded.. I have had enough . My opinon is just as valid as nay other residents my wife and i both are 10 year + homeowners , i have raised my now adult daughter here .. I count damn it !! all i have done is mobilize other residents whether they are business owner or not has nothing to do with it . ( some might think we have "more skin in the game" than a non busines owner).that have a similar belief on this are as I.. no one can discount one neighbors opinon over another .. I have been careful through this process not to discount yours or Mr. Burgua either. This isjust about fairness & openess for all the residents of our city

mr burg as you may know the city created alot of the last minute haphazrd feel as they were trying to meet the requests of a handful of nieghbors who had their hand in the permit process as well as the ear of city staff. the process had begun two months prior..the city made changes as late as thursday as to what would be or not be allowed during the event ,, oddly enough some childrens events were canceld due to their locations ( too close to the residents on the north side of the park
I saw many participants drive their dogs from outer neighborhoods on saturday to participate in the splash dog event . I also parked my truck there as i was returning from running errands outside the grid and decided to stop for a spell on sunday to observe.
I dont knwo how much money was raised either as i know the first event was not profitable on saturday due to the high cost of the event ( those cops & MIB arent free). I also know it will take some time for all the accounting to take place to determine the net $..
I do know that during these economic times not only was it fun for all ,,it infused many $ into our local economy many of my ( & your) neighbors worked the event or at the surrounding businesses and they are very happy to have the work

I am one who is bothered by the the idea of teh most vauable of materials being pilfered by career recyclers such as are in my midtown neighborhood ( the homeles rarely beat the career recyclers. I have had them come in my 6' fenced back yard ( my dog bit one of them & i was worried i was gonna get sued) i knwo PD wont be spending too much time over it but maybe it will cut back on the career recyclers as well increase the profitibility of the recycling program that i am happy to participate in .. tip the scales a little.. Big business locally is way too busy to care about KJ right now. I am excited to see how he will maintain a solid image while we are goin bankrupt. The state money will be on his list of accomplishments next year ( kinda like grant highs winning state.). sorry for the dry cynicism.. I am so sad about the state of politics and the likes of maviglio (whom i like personally) who are comfortable spinning while treating the average taxpaying resident like they are an idiot ( or mushroom) all the while creating popular vote ( or paid for signatures )... sacramentos strength is truly in its own citizens (active on this page and other sites, shoing up at council etc) and local business folk , ayers , otto , even the new young guns of heller ,friedman, miry etc.. too bad they wont run for office... sacramento will prevail in spite of the spin doctors

I love sacramento, these posts both in the bee , here on sac press, in brooks truits email loop , neighborhood association loops.. there is great concensus here . KJ 's political machine ( and it is a fine machine , that all involved should be proud of) However it is not of the citizens of sacramento, it is not pure.. if someone paid me to gather signatures you can bet your ass id get them no matter the cause hell i could get them for killing babies ..(especially in this economy). if this is the "change "KJ is speaking about then we all screwed up by allowing him in.. a change so far has meant, no need for the council or public input just spinmeisters and signature gatherers. Tonights mtg was a good start. ( ia m sure KJ was bored and thinks we are all back woods humans) I used to think a pure interactive government was the future ,no politicians just single voting done in your home on all things ,, was the answer,, eliminating politicians ,, my pipe dream was flawed ,i never thought there would be humans willing to lie cheat and steal to promote something bad for the population just to further their own agendas/ careers etc.,,, naive i am .. the spin meister is the most scary of all .. all lobbyists, political volunteers must have background checks , sign conflict of interest statemens , income statements ... (hell eliminate politicians and elect spinmeisters). & steve if you made it this far in my rant.. if all this is so good for us ( & we just dont know any better) then have KJ explain it to us in real terms real examples of why it is a good thing... you know simple language so we understand it ...
sorry for the rant.. many thanks to all of those that showed up to council tonight and continue the good fight for our great city
