increasing traffic to the port will be a major boost to its economic viability--great news.
i feel the decision to leave the depot where it is makes the most sense. the cost to move the structure would just be too astronomical, especially in these tough economic times, and the depot can still be a pivotal piece of the overall scheme. good choice, council.
Conversation about: Design Dialogue: Evolving riverfront
Riverfront redevelopment has to be a priority for the City, even in down economic times. These initial projects, at a minimum, need to be built in the next few years in order to develop some kind of momentum for future plans. when a few brave developers take the initial steps, with cities smartly supporting their ventures, others that follow feed off that optimism. it's not just about making the numbers anymore, it's about creating a unique and lasting feature for a city desperately in need of some new character. the huge problem south of pioneer bridge is the petroleum facilities--those things need to be relocated first. and good luck getting big oil to move quickly. but a plan to move them to the port of sacto has been kicked around--hopefully, something like that will be revived in our lifetimes.
