I'm glad you prepresented at the meeting. Good representing. Thanks.
Mulvaney's are great and have done a lot to make Sacramento a better place. I bet the soup will be delicious. And lines are a great way to meet people. Just have some soup. Chill out.
Waiting for 12 years to get married? Are you kidding? That's an unrealistically long engagement and people shouldn't have to wait any longer. Line up. Sometimes you just gotta insist. Do what's right even though no one else does what's right. At least you're doing your part.
I've been hearing city councilmembers and mayors say for years how they want a more vibrant downtown. This is vibrant. I live close to Cesar Chavez park and go there often to participate in activiites or talk to people. I run into people I know and also meet new people. Everyone is welcome in participating in the direct democracy going on in the park. Lets get out to the City Council meeting tonight in support of allowing the occupation to continue.
I appreciate this article especially because I was unable to attend. I've attended several Sac Press workshops and recommend them.
I hear he owns a car, too. And, and, a flat screen tv. Oh, and he's got watch, too.
Safe Ground isn't about sleeping along the American River or where ever they feel like it. That's why they are looking for a place where they are allowed to be. And then they have plans and support for cabins and a community infrastructure, with services, without taxpayers footing the bill. Already, very many Safe Ground campers have transitioned into housing and have found employment. Most members are very temporarily homeless. All the original Safe Grounders are no longer with the group, most have transitioned out of homelessness. www.safegroundsac.org
I went to one of the rallies at the capitol. My favorite protest sign said "How do you like your lunch break?"
I enjoyed the class very much and thought much of the instruction and hints useful in areas other than in writing opinion pieces.
Slobe said that enforcing the law is the solution. That is so wrong. If you enforce the no camping ordinance, there is no alternative. They will have to sleep outdoors someplace else and that someplace else will equally be illegal. We need affordable housing, jobs, homeless services, and areas where people can sleep legally until there are other options for those people. And we hope for housing or shelter, but currently there is not enough to go around and the county even quit funding the winter overflow shelter. There is a program where homeless people can sleep on the floors at a church, but that program is currently filled up, also.
Tom, Costa Mantis wasn't there that day but I can get the video you're probably referring to. Mike is charging $10 and I was planning on sending away for a copy.
Safe Ground Sacramento members are a great group of people from business community, non-profit orgs, and especially people that are homeless that want something better for their lives and are willing to work towards that goal. I don't know why someone would try to destroy their reputation every chance they get. Safe Ground Sacramento has a website www.safegroundsac.org where you can find out what its all about. Tom doesn't know what its about.
My goodness. Worse than any smell (did you actually go in and smell them?) is the stupidity that the mayor and others keep complaining about "camping illegally". Actually its against the law to even set down "camping paraphrenalia" on the ground, which is determined "storage of camping paraphrenalia on public property" And it is against the law to sleep on private property for more than 24 hours, but on public property you can't sleep outside at all. And you can't sleep inside if you're homeless and sleeping outside because there is no room in the emergency shelter programs or any homeless programs. So there is no possible way to not camp illegally anywhere in Sacramento if you don't have enough money to afford rent. Stupid remark. Who believes that? Seems like a lot of people do - its like the emperor's new cloths.
About the Sacramento Parks - I think we should cut way back on park expenditures, reducing mowing and especially reducing watering (since we are in drought conditions). I think we maintain way too many lawns that are not all utilized except for esthetics. Lawns are not enviromentally sustainable. Sports parks should be maintained to at least a minimum to be appropriate for sports. I'd hate to see the restrooms closed because there are so few public restrooms as it is. K Street open to cars - wouldn't that cost too much during economically difficult times. Lets wait a few years if we do that.

First post on Sac Press. I made some errors. One was at the bottom - the link to the videos are http://youtube.com/shocpaula
