World Diabetes Day is held every year on the 14th of November. The event is sponsored by the International Diabetes Federation and supported by the World Health Organization. "Bringing diabetes to light" is the theme of this year’s campaign. Its goal was to educate people dealing with the disease about new treatments and health care coverage. 1,100 monuments in the world were illuminated in blue on Sunday. In Sacramento the Capital building was selected to one of those buildings. Several hundred people attended the evening event. The California Department of Public Health also hosted a diabetes health fair on the steps of the Capitol. Tony Award-winning actor, dancer and singer Ben Vere
Today marks the first day of school for many kids in the greater Sacramento area. Some districts, like Folsom Cordova, are already in their second week of school, but for a majority of the districts today is the end of a hopefully fun filled summer and back to building of a foundation that will help them succeed into the future. For most kids the school they are attending will be the same as last year or one that has seen many kids through the years. With the downturn of the economy and housing market we have not seen many new schools built in recent years. Many districts have even started to consolidate and close schools. That is not the case for this year’s students attending Cosumnes R
On Tuesday the Sacramento City Council will discuss their official position and possible action surrounding the newly enacted Arizona immigration bill, SB1070. The bill was signed into law by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on April 23rd and takes effect 90 day later. The agenda item comes at the request of Councilman Rob Fong. Fong has publicly requested the City of Sacramento to boycott Arizona for any official business because of Arizona's desire to enforce federal law within their state. Congratulations on 25 years.
I applaud your efforts. I know firsthand that it is a challenge to maintain a civil, and at the same time, a censorship free site. There is no perfect solution. No matter what you do some people will feel you went too far and others will feel you did not go far enough. Here are a couple of ideas that I have used that seem to help. 1> Temporary bans. Violate the TOS and start with a one week ban. Next time it’s a permanent ban. 2> Comment moderation. Problem users’ comments are held in moderation until a moderator or admin can approve them. 3> Allow users to ignore or hide a particular users’ comments. Some people just do not interact well. 4> Word filter. Ensure comment with blatantly flagrant words do not get posted until a moderator reviews them. 5> Limit the number of comments per day for problem users. 6> Comment sparing area. Some people love to fight. Give them an area to battle it out. A location not visible to others unless access is requested. I appreciate SacPress trying to address this issue openly. As one of your readers I am happy to help in any way that I can.
Hopefully these latest Kings additions will get them out of the basement of the Western Conference.
If I was talking to myself you would not be replying to me. Come on naga point out one lie or maybe you could try to stick to the discussion.
Conversation about: Ask Officer Michelle - Officers Using Cellphones While Driving
I am fine with officers talking on the phone. How many officer involved accidents included the officer being on the phone? I think we have bigger things to worry about.
