I also want to see Whiteside get some playing time, but for the first time in a long while the Kings are overwhelmed with the amount of talented bigs they have. Which is why they may be looking to deal one of them. According to ESPN, the Kings attempted to deal Jason Thompson to the Hawks for point guard Jeff Teague, but Atlanta passed on the offer.
Thanks. They didn't do justice to your pictures though.
The 'Cats were one game back before tonight and still are. Sacramento and Fresno both lost tonight so Fresno still has the one game lead in the division. There are about 20 games left in the season so if the River Cats want to play deep into September they'll need to start taking advantage of any losses by Fresno.
I start class next week and of course one of my classes starts at 6, so it doesn't look like I'll be able to go. Maybe I'll be able to catch the end of it.. If not, I hope those who do attend have a great time! Hopefully I'll be able to attend the next Sports Writing Workshop that is held.
My mouth actually watered when I saw the picture of sushi. Good article, hopefully I can go check it out next year!
I see pro wrestling as a soap opera, but you still did a great job of covering it. Good job!
Nice article! These kind of games are the best ones to attend. Being able to finish a night like this with fireworks is a great way to cap off the evening.
Great article and awesome pics!
Jon was one of the nicest guys on the team. I spoke with him twice and he seemed to be a real genuine guy, a rarity among professional athletes. I know Kings fans won't be happy to see Nessi go but with the recent additions of Dalembert, Whiteside, and Cousins he would have had a hard time seeing the floor. In Milwaukee he will be able to get some playing time.
Kings News: The Kings announced today that they have released Jason Ellis, Steven Hill and Tyren Johnson. Three players who have a chance of making another Summer League roster, but had no shot at making the last spots on the Kings roster come October. Yesterday, the Kings signed rookie point guard Donald Sloan for the league minimum. Sloan played college ball at Texas A&M where he became the second player in Texas A&M history to amass 1,400 points, 400 rebounds, and 300 assists. The other player to do so was Bernard King.
I don't know much about Sloan, but if he can impress in the Summer League he would be a cheap back-up at the point guard position.
I worry about his perimeter shooting in the NBA. He shot under .33% from three in college so I don't expect his game to be around the perimeter in the NBA. And due to his lack of athleticism I don't see him making our roster. He may be able to make a roster in the East but I would be very surprised if he made it past the Summer League roster of the Kings. The two players I do like are Ryan Thompson and Sylven Landesburg. They have the most likely chance of making the roster since a back-up two is what we need. If we don't end up signing a Steve Blake or Luke Ridnour expect us to keep one of those two.
The River Cats are now two games above .500 and with how well they have been playing they might be able to stay above that mark. They are only 8 games back from Fresno and in this league that is not a lot of games.
Undrafted Texas A&M point guard Donald Sloan will also be suiting up for the Kings in this years Summer League. At Texas A&M Sloan averaged 17.8 points and 2.3 assists in his senior year.
The Kings were able to draft by need and best player available in the draft. We were somehow able to draft a projected lottery selection with our second round pick and were able to get the most NBA ready big man in the draft. The Kings went from having one seven footer to becoming one of the biggest rosters Sacramento has seen ever. Hopefully the players make a smooth transition into the NBA. We will be able to get a taste of what they both have starting in July with the Las Vegas Summer League.
I'm glad to see you were able to go to this workout. Were you able to watch the players workout? EDIT: Tiny Gallon, we should give him an invite to Summer League just because of his name!
Hawes had three years in Sacramento to prove his worth and he wasn't what the Kings thought he would be. So off he goes to Philly and in comes Dalembert. The Kings basically traded for a year long workout of Dalembert. He will have a year to try out for a contract next season. He's a defensive presence down low that the Kings definitely needed. Originally I thought the trade meant the Kings didn't like any of the big man enough to take them with the fifth pick, but the Kings now have a chance to secure some guys down low. Landry, Thompson, Dalembert and Cousins aren't a bad group of big man to build around.
Congrats to Sac Press, the expansion is well deserved!
Rob didn't make his point, you turned what was a valid statement by Rob into your own claim. If you don't care about sports, comment on articles that you do care about. As much as you may not like it, there is a lot of interest in Sports here in the country you call home.
